Hiya Martin, Oh about 15 years ago,we pulled up on the glenmore bridge, just as the great Bert Atkins, was going down the bank,he looked up and said,” jimmy boy, what you doing down here the day, just come down a run ?” Aye says me,me and Katie thought we’d come the length of Donegal and see how the fishing was, little be known we’d meet the neighbours!. So Bert goes down,I kid you not,Bert had a fish on within 5 minutes on the fly,it was a bann special,me and the wife are hanging over the bridge watching the action, you know em big black plastic bags the farmers now wrap hay up in. Well one of em was in the pool, and of course, does Bert’s dropper not get snagged up on the black plastic,it only took a split second and yon fish was gone. Bert the gentleman that he was just smiled and said, there’s a big plastic bag in yonder, aye says me,we can see it clear enough up high here,he moved from there up to ivy bridge where we left him,but boy o boy,he caught some fish on the fly on the Finn, returning them all. I was so sad to here he died, just a couple of months ago,but his fly inventions will live on,and on,like the bann special, the apache, mettican bug,all fleas he invented, the bann special will work on any water, although a norther Irish fly,it’s deadly on any Scottish river, and you can take that to the bank. Thanks for the memories Bert, the fishing, and the drams we had together……….jimmy
