Good luck for the boys and girls on the Severn this season.

I will be out next Friday wetting a line and hoping :)

Diglis is a good fishery, but I’ve never fished it. It is also well down the river so will likely take sometime for it fall to anything like a fishable level.

On the other hand Shrewsbury weir is well up river and a good high water fishery. My PB (24 lbs) came from there in high water in mid February many years ago, and by then half a dozen had already been landed.
Do you still fish Shrewsbury weir. I nearly joined diglis £150 a year. Decided against it as it's a 130 mile round trip. Plus last year only 20 fish were caught, ( worst season ever I was told) not the fishery it once was for sure.

No. I live near Ross so spend my time on that river. I do however make the occasional February visit to the Severn when conditions allow and before the Wye opens. But thereafter…..
Nice part of the world for sure. I joined the WSA this year so may have a few trips down your way on the Wye (y)

I suggest you also look at your map book, as there is PAAS parking quite close to Brompton ford on the Atcham Grange side (left bank) that could save you a long walk. I’ve not been down that side so don’t know how accessible the water is from that bank but it is worth at least having a quick look. Note it is also the side that Peter refers to in his post above.
Yes that's where I parked. Still a good walk for my dodgy knees. The access is a little overgrown on that side but it's fishable above and just below the ford. Did see a few fish last years, but did not connect with any. Maybe this year 😁😁

Well what a start. Only been out once for a few hours on the 2nd and river was running 4ft high - spun all day for nought.
Was going to fish Shrewsbury weir on Friday, not looking at all good, it raining again and the Welsh Bridge gauge is over 2 metres on and predicted to keep rising with around 3 metres by Friday.

Piking on the lakes for Friday now then.

Maybe next month.

Hi Marco,

I would say the Severn is a low water river and just wait for a rise then get fishing :) - I am also a BAA member. Saying that I think Holt Fleet fishes better with water on. Just joined Shrewsbury fisheries, so have the weir to fish at Shrewsbury this year as well, if it ever drops enough haha

The Severn is my closest river with Salmon in it, still a good run with the traffic mind you. Join the WSA as well for a crack on the Wye, £10 a year is fantastic value for the water available. Got myself booked on a few beats for the coming season. Fingers crossed.
I reckon I do not live too far from you looking at your name Derbysalmon. I live between Lichfield and Burton.

Good luck on the BAA stretches.

Cheers Paul

I only know what was caught roughly from Diglis and Shrewsbury weir through contacting the people that organise the fishing. Otherwise of late I cannot find any records. I have the PAAS records of fish caught on the Albert Severn waters each year also.

Was going to give Shrewsbury weir a go tomorrow but feel it just still too high.

I have also heard that the EA have reduced to area you can fish by about 40% is this true 😲!!!!!!!

Going to be a total waste now if that's true
Might as well just close it for salmon fishing all together as that seems to be what they want.

Meet up sounds cool. I fish on my own as all my mates are coarse fisherman which is my background and still do a bit.

Good luck tomorrow you never know 👍 I am out next week for sure. Booked on the Wye red lions water the 19th March.

Let us know how you get on. Might book Whitney on the WSA 😁

Changes? From when I started going there in the late 50s/early 60s as lad to watch the salmon fishing, and later to fish myself, there was always a white line on the weir concrete and fishing banned for the first 50 yard downstream of the crest of the weir. Other than this you could then fish downstream to the bottom end of Sidney Avenue where the road turns sharp left.

Has this now changed?
The line has been moved down much further so I am told 😳
