Slightly off topic: Unless you get an official UK clearance and have the reference numbers for returning items to non-EU makers for repair, you will be charged full UK Taxes and Duties based - not on the cost of repairs - but on the whole item value - even if the repair is free of cost!!!!!! They even charge on shipping costs!!

BEWARE
- do your homework before shipping out!!!

. . . they even charge on shipping costs!!
Exactly, that's why I say just calculate the true final cost by adding 30% as it will be nearer that by the time everything is added.

My last 5 rods from the US have cost between 27% and 29% more than the purchase price. Some have still worked out cheaper, some dearer but it was gear that I just could not buy here so am quite happy.

Non of the legit Fishing/Shops/Companies devalue the price anymore over the heavy penalties if found out! I bought a Simms G3 Jacket last year & with the customs charges etc. it would have been cheaper to buy it in Ireland or the UK, Remember Customs & Excise charge the full/combined amount which includes product + P&P (GIT'S)

Some of them have an agreement with the EU and will add the VAT before shipping** - at least then you do not pay the RM handling charge or VAT on P&P. The need to charge VAT on P&P is probably an EU directive and stops companies saying the item is only £10 and postage £150.

** Gets to be a problem when in the US and ordering software online for download with the intent of using it there and not exporting it. Having a UK credit card means some add 20% VAT to the price even though teh product will never get to Europe. And I guess, the same may happen with physical items when using a UK card and US delivery address.
