I love a nice bottle of 10 year old Laphroaig. Can't beat the stuff! It's great for getting a good fire going or to disinfect the kitchen floor tiles.
Excellent for cleaning cuts, although it stings a bit. Seriously though it's almost drinkable if you make a toddy with lots of honey and lemon, and have a really serious cold. And nothing else..

Excellent firelighting fluid - with heretics on top.
"Heresy is the eternal dawn, the morning star, the glittering herald of the day. Heresy is the last and best thought. It is the perpetual New World, the unknown sea, toward which the brave all sail. It is the eternal horizon of progress.
Heresy extends the hospitalities of the brain to a new thought.
Heresy is a cradle; orthodoxy, a coffin."

Nowt wrong with a heretic!

....savouring the shrieked recantations wafting heavenward.

That one is out of stock you tease. But there's no reason to spend so much as long as the 10 is there.
NB: 10...no weaselly rebadging. But how long can they hold out?

One for sipping, Laphroaig Triplewood. Nectar!
I hope you're right. I once bought a bottle of something called PX Laphroaig - Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. It seemed confused and confusing rather than heady. Much the same with GlenMo's Quinta Ruban - what a shocker! A good way of marketing young whisky, perhaps? Can't beat 10/12 yrs in a new French oak or American Bourbon cask.

We're all different. (But single malts will end up all the same, young spirit wearing too much make-up, the way it's going).
All IMHO.

Sea fishing on Islay last year,I had a bit of free time and thought a warehouse tasting tour at Lagavulin would be a good idea.
We had just tried a 33yr old. A Japanese woman sitting next to me whispered 'What do you think of that?' I said it was ok. Ok!Ok!!! Ithought she would have hysterics.
I did like a 22yr old. We finished with 100yr old. That just got an ok.Glad no-one asked me! I don't think I would have dared say.
Perhaps the good stuff's wasted on me.I mustn't have the palate. I know I don't like meths.
Over at Bowmore, they had a ÂŁ100,000 bottle in a showcase, illuminated by spotlights. I asked the guide if they ever sold one of those. 'Oh yes.' she said,'We sold two last week, both to the same guy. One for drinking,
one for his collection.' Bet he fishes with a Hardy Sintrix!
The showroom was lined with bottles from ÂŁ4000-ÂŁ6000,mostly sold for drinking. I'm a player but I seem to have wandered onto the wrong pitch.
Wheres my Oracle? If I keep it long enough will it become a collectors item?
I thought I would recommend Bowmore 22yr old, then I looked up the price. Wow!! Hope someone brings one fishing.
t.c.

I have probably tried the 22yo. I certainly have experienced 25yo and 35yo Bowmore in the past few months.

May taste OK, but that does not justify the cost.

They removed the 12yo and replaced it with an NAS at a similar price point.
NAS seems to be the way that most are headed. Whether you believe the marketing hype that, "...age does not determine how good a whisky is..." or you believe it is a ploy by the distilleries to overcharge for their 'aged' bottlings, for a lot of people, and I very much include myself in this, price is the determining factor of what they buy.

I simply do not know enough about whisky to turn my nose up at what might, or might not be, low aged whisky. I would dearly love to be in a position to be able to buy drams at ÂŁ50+ a bottle. Unfortunately I am unable to do this. ÂŁ25 would be top of my budget and yes, if I can get an a bottle with an age on it under that I will buy it. However, if the only thing on offer is an NAS, I'll buy those too.

I completely understand that many Whisky connoiseurs are pulling their hair out over NAS releases. For many of us, we can't afford to be too picky.

A big problem we have here too is that there are very few whiskys available. All the off licenses in my area do not carry a great selection of malts. Some don't have malts at all with only blends available. You have to go to the large supermarkets and even then there wouldn't be an awful lot available. Off Licenses that do carry malts can definately charge for them too. Each time I look at this thread I see brands that I have never heard of, purely because we don't have them here.

Currently being off alcohol for Lent, not having had a tipple since February 9th and with 13 days still to go, replying to this thread is almost a form of torture!
