On the plus side, at least it won't deteriorate if kept in the dark. Apparently sunlight also causes wine to deteriorate quite rapidly.
I was once told by someone who should know that a bottle of decent malt will change very little til around half empty.
After that , and depending on how long it is kept , it will evolve , with aromatics evaporating into the vacant space.

Note that I said " evolve " , not deteriorate.:)

Visited Whisky Galore at the Tyndrum Green Wellie Stop today on my way home.
Impressive wee place hidden at the back of the tourist trap part.
Well worth a visit if passing.:)

Constantine stores is a store like no other and just happens to be here in the South West. At the front is just a normal Spar/One Stop type thing but go out back and it's a different story. The good news is they sell online to:

The amount of whiskey they have in stock is impressive:-

Campbeltown (15)
Highland (123)
Island (68)
Islay (75)
Lowland (13)
Speyside (182)

I am not connected in any way with them, but thought I would spread the word. If there is a whiskey you can't find anywhere else they are always worth a try. A few years ago I found the last three bottles in the world of a particularly rare drop for a customer of mine there.

A cheeky wee deal at Co-op at the moment!

Nothing uber fancy, but Glenlivet's Founder's Reserve at ÂŁ22 a bottle.

It's a lovely wee dram - very warm with a sweet caramel finish.....just stocked up again earlier this evening. A steal at that price.
Was given a bottle of the above as a way of thanks and must say I agree with westie very nice indeed. Not a fan of the no age statement but never the less very enjoyable.

As mentioned in another post.
The Glen Esk hotel in Edzell now has an incredible portfolio of Whiskys.
A lot of them from ÂŁ40.00+ per nip, which seems a bit steep.
I think id rather get my own bottle for ÂŁ40.00
There is a lot of different local bottles including Esk from hillside which hasn't been in production for a long time.

You need to be careful when a bar has a large number of rare and expensive drams available. Some, will have been open for a long time with a single measured poured once every now and again. They will often be in the light and may have shelf lighting above and below. The whisky will be warmed and cooled, maybe by just a few degrees, on a daily basis - that may harm the contents. The air in the bottle will be full to saturation with the aromatics and then as soon as it is opened that will flood out, then back on the shelf and the process starts again potentially degrading the remaining contents.

Sounds like a good excuse for not letting your good whisky lie too long in the bottle!;):D

My unopened bottles live a a cupboard backing into an outdoor coal cellar.
Cool , but never too cold.
Opened stuff lives in drink cabinet and is never left in daylight or affected by artificial light.:)

Compare this to Kenny Kingfisher's bottles which seldom , if ever , see the light of day at all.:D
