Itl be a 30ft taperd shock leader.

 

Complete the set with a float, a feeder, half a pint of Maggots and a nice comfy seat.

 

A fixed spool reel is the best choice. A nice 11' float rod and some split shot.

 

Do you know what exactly the Close case reel is ?
This type of fishing is not something I would use are my normal attack, Id only use this in low water, with the sun shinning brightly on the water. I presume most of this presentation, has originated in Iceland, where you can spot most of your fish. I prepared to give it a try. Regarding the 11ft 5. 6 weight I not managed to find one yet.

 

Fly fishing it ain't. Be as well using the correct tackle.

 

I think this sort of fishing has rather more in common with bait fishing than fly fishing. I don't really think swivels, nylon mainlines and weights are really a fly fishing thing.

To be clear I have nothing against it: if it 's your thing then do it. That goes for spinning, worming and prawning too. I have been salmon fishing for well over 40 years and have used all methods at one time or another. Nowadays I only enjoy salmon fishing on a fly and then only when I can see or feel the take, but that is very personal to me. I really do not care what others enjoy and would never wish to restrict them in so far as it is legal and doesn't impinge on other people's sport.

On a slightly wider front I am not certain how I feel about sharing a beat where some rods fish like this. I think I would be fine: I share a beat in Cornwall where anything goes and have no issues, but I have a nagging doubt I would enjoy a holiday let less if other rods were fishing this way. I certainly would never book a beat where they allow spinning unless I had the whole beat.

This is the new frontier in fishing and I think beats are going to have to have a bit of a think about how they approach this in a shared water situation. If I was letting a multi rod fly only beat to individuals, I think I would want a written policy in the booking conditions.

 

My thoughts exactly. You don't want to share a beat with 2 or 3 anglers who fish this or some other type of nymphing in low water .

 

Hi Iain.David Downie use to do a French leader for the trout ..Was fluo orange and if you chopped the first 18 inch off was pretty good for what your looking for.

You must know me by mentioning my name. I presume we've fished together at 1 time ? Since Iv had this Seizure bollox, chunks my memory gone. But hopefully things are on the mend.

 

Look for a Fox carp tapered shock , they can be 30lb to 12 lb or a heavier version for European carping .

 

I think the reel in question could well be a closed face reel, as in the Abu 506/507 etc etc.
