How much does the head weigh in grams and what length is it in feet

and im trying to find out what the head weighs..

 

Do you remember when you were using the line if you had the whole head outside the rod tip before casting! If you did you could simply attach a braided loop( or some other method) to the running line cut the rest off the running line off the head( you said a meter) and attach a braided loop to the head, loop to loop and away you go,all you've done really is shortened the line by a meter really,

 

Have a look at this video on joining a running line by Peter Charles,you could maybe use this method.

Im taking it over to a mate who is going to load his up on my rod, the rod is actually a Gem MK1 11ft with a converted extension. Im using it at night on the wear.
He's going to weigh it all up and do the business for me. I can cast spey lines all day but i wanna give the shooting head a go!

You may well find although the line is ok it will be too light to make a shooting head effectively.If it is an 8 rod in order to load your rod effectively you may well need say a 10 line so when its cut down you still have the weight to load the rod.For an 8 weight to work it would be too long.I'd cut the running line back to the rear taper,loop to loop and continue as before with a full line.To make a shooting head with that line you're probably looking at a 6 weight rod to get a load effectively.
I am of course talking about the scandi type of shooting head lengths,you could develop the line as an 8 weight head but in reality it would still handle like a full line and have non of the benefits of a scandi type head.Best of luck,Pedro.
