Felt with studs on the right foot
vibram with studs on the left

im not joking.
Great idea. 👍

I think age comes into it as well.
When your younger you are more nimble, with quicker reaction time.
I waded deep for years in Tay, Isla, Ericht , Earn, Dee and Spey without felt soles or a wading stick. But I don't even walk the bank without a stick now. Its a huge confidence thing and between that and studded felt soles, that is the safest I feel now . The fishing I do now thankfully doesn't merit deep wading but could still get a cold dooking in knee depth.

Interesting thread. Can anyone recommend which type of Supatraks to go for (1605?). I have snowbee studs on my current boots and went for a swim yesterday on the Tyne (Brrrrrr).

Whoever invited vibram soles for wading needs to be slapped.
Nothing short of dangerous in the water. Great for the banks but not fit for water.
Felt and supatrax studs. By miles the best set up. You might slip on muddy banks but I’d rather plant it on the bank than in the river.

I agree re vibram soles. I bought a pair of Airflow ones years ago and wore them once, that was enough for me! Torvill & Dean spring to mind :D Which is probably just as well as the soles peeled off after one outing!!

Me neither. Do you call that brave or foolish? I know a few people who have ended up swimming there.
The afore mentioned ghillie told me to do it! If I did it again that would definitely be foolish. These days I wouldn't do it in felt soled G4's with tungsten studs. I was a callow youth of 40 then. Now I would ask the ghillie to get the boat.

Sounds true to form there. I had a look and firmly declined. I was a bit more than 40 though.

I remember buying a pair of neoprene waders off ebay about 20 years ago.

They were camo in colour and had a heavy, deeply cleated sole with long metal spikes in the grooves of the soles.

I've never had grip like it on any soles before or since. Both in the river and on the banks.

Totally agree. Mate wore his new vibrant on Upper Farleyer and ruined his day as he quickly became terrified of how **** they were on rocks and Upper Farleyer isn’t the place to be if you’re slipping.
Aye, once you get some studs in they are fine. They should come with them really.
Same with felt on the river bank.

Does no one male combi soles these days ?
As a kid i had john norris neoprenes and they had felt on the front and cleated at the back. Maybe my ballance was just better then but i never seemed to slip on the bank or in the tyne and the wadings awefull in places.
