Ok all after 40 years of trying all sorts of chest waders i have given up the ghost accepted defeat and decided i cant be arsed. Whatever i bought i could spend £30 or £300, i would not get 3 seasons out them......until i bought a pair of industrial (not angling) waders for £70 1st pair lasted 5 years and had i not caught them on barbed wire they would of lasted longer so, that's it, yep i sweat but so what amblers all the way from now on!

They sound like a good buy, I use vass, how do they compare to them? Also what model did you get, Danube or Tyne? How are they for true size? So many questions. Thanks 👍

We used to get the old hunter indistrial thigh waders. I think they were built the same but black and cost half of what the green ones did in fishing shops. Bycicle puncture kit in the fishing bag for barbed wire damage 😂

Zip fronts, if you're the wrong side of advancing years, zip front waders are the best ever thing since sliced bread. I've not seen many if any Neoprene with zip fronts as I'd be interested.
I'm currently 4 years into Simms G4Z ownership. The neoprene feet are starting to look bit tatty, but that aside brass very well spent. Prior to those had Reddington Dry Fly zip fronts which were great and still got some Guideline Sonic zip fronts which have had minimal use.
Pains me to say buy Simms, but mine are absolutely bob on!.
Pedro.
Another vote for G4Zs. Mine's are 6 yrs old and only one visit to the repair shop for pin pricks. They take an awful lot of abuse but in the long run for me anyway they are money well spent. Look around for a deal now.

I think a lot of the reliability issues with waders totally depends on how much use they get.
You have guys who have a week or twos fishing during the year with some odd days here and there swearing by waders that have lasted 8 seasons etc.
All on manicured banks with pools you can drive straight too. Nice paths etc.
Then you get someone like me who has half a dozen full weeks booked in a year and is out once or twice every week. I fish in lots of really remote and totally wild places. With a lot of walking and clambering about.
I checked how many steps I did last week fishing. 13800 steps in one day through chest high undergrowth over heather and through long grass. Over barbed wire fences. Proper wild yomping. Especially with concrete boots on.
I get 2 seasons out of any waders before I need to start nursing them with aquasure.
My pal even less.
Im with Loxie on this one.
Don’t spend more than £200 on my waders now.
Only expect 2 season use out of them.
I don’t grumble paying £100 a season to stay dry.
My guideline laxas are on their 3rd season now although they need replacing now. Damp around the boot seams.
I will be looking for deals on another cheap pair over the winter.

4 pairs of £200 waders or 1 pair of £800 ones? It seems pretty simple to me!

I've only ever used cheap waders, they've been perfectly fine. I've got a pair that's 6 years old, nothing wrong with them, I use them as backups. If you travel, they're also lightweight. Just bought a pair of Taimen zip front 4. & 5 layer jobbies for £160 in their sale. Hand warmer pockets, roll down braces, good fit etc etc

I can't get my head around £1,000 waders, doesn't make any kind of sense to me. Must be a Gucci effect.

Is diverdave still cheaper than retail prices on his waders? My 2 pairs of old vision ikons I think are more aquasure than wader now, probably get koski's for next season.

Gucci? You ain't seen nothing yet. The photos below are from October 2019 in Milan, where the main Prada store has a fishing section (yes, really). The wading jacket was E1800. As far as I can recall the waders were towards E3000.

The season coming to the end looking for a set of waders for next year .what waders you guys wearing .
Try Kinetic x5 £200 from Edinburgh Angling Centre basically GAC ……bought them couple of months ago and so far really impressed.5ply all way up the legs, waterproof pockets and braces sit really well.Had a pair off Patagonias for 6 seasons and were great but can’t justify the cost now(£320 sale price when I got them))won’t get a deal like that now 😬……also ….just bought a x3 kinetic wading jacket that seems to be equally a great product for the money (£100) ….The kinetic brand seems really good quality for not silly money 👍

A rough history of chest waders, I might be a year out but the durations are correct.

2000-2012 - Oceans, they do the wading part well, but I used to sweat buckets, they perish over time & the boots wear out.
2012-2013 - Airflo breathable zip waders, convenient but the zip was probably the only waterproof part.
2014 - Scierra breathable waders which were locked in a competition with the matching boots to see which would fall apart first
2015 - Orvis Guide waders, 1 trip to Diver Dave in early 2022, - they finally gave up in 2024 when the neoprene boots failed after 9 and a bit seasons
2024 onwards, I’ve got the Patagonia Swiftcurrents, non-zip. They are the best fitting waders I’ve used & they haven’t leaked yet. I have noticed that they aren’t as breathable as the Orvis ones were, but I can live with that fir

I fish between 30 and 60 days a year, some bush-bashing on my club waters and easier spots on other beats & reservoirs.

A better, hardier pair of waders works for me but it’s clearly not for everyone.

I bought 3 pairs of G4s over a number of years (all on sale and averaged around £450 a pair) and rotate them during the season. The eldest pair are now 11 years old. I fish 50+ days a year and make any repairs needed over the winter months. Don't think I will ever need to buy another pair of waders. They are very comfortable.
Current prices are crazy for G4s.

You mentioned the main word there in my opinion.... fit.
They last alot longer when you find a set with a good fit. Baggy and they rub at the seams and leak, same if the legs are too long and bunched up. Too tight and they pull at the seams when you kneel down.
I keep 2 sets, a set of hodgeman aesis zip with the thermal liner for winter as they fit well with thick clothes.
For summer the reddingtons are a slimmer fit so great for shorts and a shirt underneath.

Many years ago I decided I needed 2 pairs of breathable waders: an all-singing and dancing pair for cold water early and late in the season and a thinner, more breathable pair for when the water and air temperature hits about 10C and are still comfortable when summer temps hit 25C plus. I probably wear the thinner pair about twice as often as the heavier ones. Current all singing and dancing waders are Patagonia Swiftcurrent Expeditions with a zip (£500 in the January sales) - just finished their first season but clearly better than the Simms G4s they replaced. The “cheap” lighter pair are Wychwood SDS Gorge waders and they’ve just completed their third “part season” with no issues. They’re a slightly stiffer material and a bit more roomy than the Greys Strata ones they replaced (which lasted just shy of 2 years before a trip to Diver Dave’s, which added another part-season) but they were a decent price (£180) and haven’t leaked yet. The biggest advantage of the 2 pair approach is you always have a “dry” pair available for the next day while you’re waiting for the Aquaseal to fully dry or for the repaired pair to arrive back from Diver Dave’.
