254 salmon landed at East Mayo last week. After the recent small grilse there appears to be a run of better sized fish over the last few days in the 5-7 Pound bracket with a few fresh fish around 9 Pound landed. From this month going forward the club is holding a monthly raffle to promote catch and release. All anglers who release a salmon and provide evidence to the office (send photo, video or witness details to [email protected]) will be entered into a draw for €100 of tackle vouchers.
Thats a great idea ! 👍

The river is full of fish. They haven’t been hanging around Ballina and running through, even at fairly low water levels although fishing appears to be picking up on the Ridge over the last couple of days. There have been large numbers of fish caught on the Moy recently. Over 1,000 salmon were reported during week commencing 27 June. Conditions are not ideal at present with low water and sunshine but a lot of fish are being seen and some still being caught early morning and late evening. Regarding C&R - A growing number of anglers release fish but too many continue to knock them on the head. The rules need to change at a national level. A lot of foreign anglers visit Ireland to kill fish because they are permitted to do so. It is no coincidence that the number of visiting anglers rockets on 13 May each year when the daily bag limit rises from one to three salmon.

My friends told me that there‘s a lot of fish in the river around Foxford these days.
I don‘t think that the problem lies in the field of the salmon that are legally taken.
IMO there‘s still too much poaching in the Moy. There were Teens of salmon taken every night.

Every River in Ireland is the same , just imagine what some rivers could be like if the majority of poaching in the Estuarys and inlets leading into the rivers were eradicated.
All it takes is a small minority of greedy and careless individuals to ruin everthing for the majority.

I fished the morning session on the Ridge. No luck but there were a few caught and lost with a lot more fish showing than I have seen in the pool all season. Good numbers appear to be backing up with some still running through.

Wouldve been a nice morning to be out fishing. I've heard the fish have run hard down there this year hopefully thats them holding up abit in the lower river. Is the ridge pool hard to get on at the minute?

The Ridge is fully booked for July. There appears to be reasonable availability on the Weir which is the top section of the Ridge. This is booked separately and only let a few days in advance.

I had 3 days up in East Mayo a week ago. Water was around .50 at Ballylahan so in decent order. There was definately fish moving through even though I missed the main run by 1 week. Seemed in good order but I would imagine its not fishing well over the last week in this current water and weather.

It can be very productive and fishes best in low water. It requires wading to a number of positions where you can fish various streams entering the pool from the boxes above. It’s let the same as the Ridge i.e. two session per day over the summer. At present it’s €125 per session. One difference if that two rods can fish the Weir at the same time under one booking (€125 for two anglers). Photo attached showing the Weir Pool.

Last week was quiet at East Mayo with 80 fish landed (55% released) compared to 254 landed (37.8% released) the week before. I believe and hope the main run is yet to arrive. Based on the number of fish in Ballina at the minute this could be the case. If so there should be some very good sport at East Mayo when the next decent rain arrives.
