So it's been a while! The summer hasn't been particularly kind to anglers but since it cooled down and rained we have had a fair few fish caught in the system including at least 3 in the high teens. Quite a few decent sea trout as well. All these far, as far as I know, have been coloured so have been hiding away all summer in the deep holes of the lower river.
Regardless it has been the best sustained fortnight of fishing on the river for a few years. It has obviously been helped by good water and cool weather but the fish still have to be there. There are a few days of the season left and fish all through the system so I recommend a go if you can.
The juvenile survey results have also been very promising as well, the best for quite some years. This is despite the tiny numbers of fish caught in the last 2 years. This shows that all is certainly not yet lost and there is still some hope for the Taw. It also shows just how few adults you need to get a decent number of juveniles and how unimportant egg deposition actually is. I fear this last point will be entirely lost on the EA however.
Anyway I was rather buoyed by this and feel any cause for optimism, however slight, should be celebrated.
Tight lines for all those venturing out for the last few days.
