My Marquis reels have served me well for years
this the no/1 I use on mt 10ft lpxe .
What a racket they make when you get a good fish on especially an early springer like this one.

I've had a wee bit criticism on the handling but it was a very lively fish and a difficult one...at one point I thought it was never going to stop.

I also use Youngs reels which are just as robust and noisy as the Marquis.

This reel was not a marquis but a loop classic loaned by a forum member..
They're a bit rickety on the retrieval ,but they look the part .
Never the less an early Earn fish from last season

I like the quiet sound of my ATH S2 and The Tweed salmon reels but also the heavier sound of the Hardy Marquis reels .?

Did a bit up at Grantown last year and got some decent footage of our very own Perigrine Falkus landing a nice fish from the little stream.
Note the silent reel...it just isn't the same.

Two really nice Brown trout from last season, it's normal for me to pick up a good wild brown every year but I was chuffed with these two which were were in superb condition.
The Browns up north are night and day compared to these .

On a brighter note, the salmon season is upon us once again and an early spring Salmon like this beauty will do very nicely...caught on a single hander and sent on its way in under 8 minutes with no cotton pickin gloves and not an anti in sight....I must live in the perfect environment

I was chuffed with this one....who wouldn't be .

Now that the proper spring run is done and reading on here that all the rivers have been fishing poorly it's fair to say that it depends on what river you choose.
Myself and a couple of mates have had tremendous sport from February through to May landing many bright sea liced springers.
Here's an example of the quality .
