Sound of an old reel...can't whack it .

My Marquis reels have served me well for years
this the no/1 I use on mt 10ft lpxe .
What a racket they make when you get a good fish on especially an early springer like this one.

I've had a wee bit criticism on the handling but it was a very lively fish and a difficult one...at one point I thought it was never going to stop.

I also use Youngs reels which are just as robust and noisy as the Marquis.

Here's a wee video of our week I put together.
Some of the footage is from mobile phone so not the best quality.

I had the chance of a new Perfect but somehow went for a Danialsson instead!
Anyway... never mind Danialsson reels..?

Here's what I'm into...and so is Scierra.

Was hovering over the buy button for one of those reels last night. Any idea if the 7/9 is any good for a switch rod ? Sound great for the money.

I think they are great...wee bit bulky for a switch maybe but I'd use one on mine.

Aye, it was the weight that made me think twice. Quite alot heavier than the little guideline reel thats on at the moment. Its too quiet but feels really nice in terms of ballance for both single and double handed casting.

Caught all my salmon this year using a Perfect. I've become accustomed to the sound of Hardy reels and been listening to one since 1978. I have some new reels like Sage Spectrum Max's and a Hardy Swift that I use on different rods but they are so quiet. One thing I will admit is that those drags can be handy. Each year I deal with fingers, usually knuckles getting badly whacked by that little knob on the Perfect. Still I use it each season and don't expect to stop. When I say knuckles getting bashed think on the order of attempting to land several fish over 20 pound daily, some days many of them. I've reached the point where after subduing one or two of the beasts I go have a seat in the boat and watch the water flow past and the salmon jump.

Couple of wee season ender's a few weeks back.
Single handed rod and two really nice visible takes from the salmon.
The one I lost felt like a decent fish but I wouldn't put 30lbs on it.

Read it again ....I thought I was on ignore ??
Not a bad fish LHU good sport on ya light gear, but am i mistaken? I took the 30lb comment as a tounge & cheek comment, basically meaning it wasn't a monster! And you didn't intend to make out it was ? Or am i a bit slow on this and missing something? A confused M31

Oh I read it. Its not 29lb either!! Close but just on silent for now. I'll see how you get on.

Oh I know it wasn't...that was the whole point, but you wouldn't get that.
(I've never understood people who can put a weight on a fish they haven't landed)?

Now move along.

A little bit more experience and you might find it easier.

I thought there was some improvement. Casting still needs a good deal of work though!
