My Marquis reels have served me well for years
this the no/1 I use on mt 10ft lpxe .
What a racket they make when you get a good fish on especially an early springer like this one.

I've had a wee bit criticism on the handling but it was a very lively fish and a difficult one...at one point I thought it was never going to stop.

I also use Youngs reels which are just as robust and noisy as the Marquis.

I have an LC 100 and I love the sound it makes when a large sea trout heads off into the darkness...:D.

That is one of the best videos I've seen Colin!! How many people saw the other fish move at 7.28? Or was it the same fish way upstream of the line in the water? We've all had that happen !!

To anyone who argues that barbel fight as well as salmon, they should see this video!! If ever a fish deserved to go back.....
Great video and I think your fish handling was as good as it could have been in the circumstances.

I took one of my old system 2 8/9's out for a day a couple of weeks ago and loved the noise it made. Most of the fish I caught were grilse, albeit mainly a good stamp of grilse in the 5 to 6lb class, but there were 2 or 3 good salmon as well. What a noise when you are in to the backing on such a small arbour reel!

Aled's comment reminded me of a night on the Barnstaple club water 20 years ago with the sound of screaming reels upstream and down. Happy days indeed.
Nice video, it certainly was a lively one ! I've tended to get fairly silent reels but you definitely miss out on that great sound when a fish runs hard.
Cracking fish Colin, quality sound also:cool:.
Cheers Diarmid.
Cracking video, thanks for sharing.
Personally,I think you had a pal in a diver's suit in the river poking the fish with a pointy stick whenever it went quiet!
I'm not jealous, envious, or a particular shade of green either, well not that much any way,Pedro.
Hope you don't mind me adding this one...maybe not such breathtaking runs...but defenately a show off.
Personally I think a lot has to do with where about you hook the fish....anyhow. .see if you can spot that diver with the spike :)

Great sound and a cracking fight, I had one on the Spey this year on my Bougle, puts a smile on your face when they go. As for the handling they never seem to do what you see on the videos, they are always unpredictable, its also difficult to remove a hook deep down so well done and the fish swam away strongly. What did impress me was the depth of the fish, it looked a cracker
After a fairly dull barren period I had an hour after work yesterday afternoon.
Blazing sun and very hot I tried a spot with a little shade and come up trumps.
A typical fish for the Whiteadder at this time of the year.
The stories of big backend runs have yet to materialise for me...and that's after fishing this river for 35 odd years.

Absolutely brilliant, what a scrap! Could watch that a dozen times over and still not get bored of it.

Thanks for posting. The criticisers can GTF!

Love it and im impressed with yer passion for older fishing tackle, i use a youngs windex circa 60s its as good and as tight where it should be,its as good as new but well used,i love it,also use a 14 foot fibre glass rod thast been bust twice and for spinning i use a abu atlantic zoom 443 and cardinal 40-66x-70 reels or failing that a mitchel 810a............kicks a.s.s over any modern rod(s) or reel(S)
Enjoyed watching them all again Col. You know I like em reels ;)
on that first video i was smiling from the moment you hooked it to when it went back, very well played and released. That reel just sings so sweet, would love it as a ringtone lol
