Recently acquired Sage Igniter 12'6" 7wt, Anyone got similar, and what advice for line size and weight to use with it

I tried this rod a couple of years ago and have to say I didn’t like it. However, that was with a Rio Scandi #7: it might be better with a 34 gm #8.

I fish this rod with a Rio Scandi Short 8 weight or in low water a Gaelforce Equalizer ESSS Switch & Short Spey line 33ft / 10.05m 7/8# 27gram 425grain. Gem of a rod in my humble opinion

Which all goes to show that the best rod in the world is the one that suits you best. There's no objective "best", just subjective preference.

I can't speak to the double-handed Igniter but I have a single-hander 9' #7 weight.

It's described as very fast and it's a pretty specialist tool - used to carry a long line for distance casting. Actually it's a very lightweight rod that by normal standards is underrated - I measured it as a #9 weight and if you put that line on it, it's a very nice and easy rod to use. As a #7 weight it's great with a lot of line out, which is fine if you can handle that but most can't. (I can sometimes, but not often enough to be useful, for me it's a tool I use to humiliate myself).

My guess would be that the Igniter would be a nice double-hander for the average caster if you overline it by at least one weight.
