What kind of fly set up is everyone using for the salmon on the wear. Lower stretches if that makes sense

 

12ft-13ft rods rated 7/8/9 will see you right for most situations mate 👍

 

That’s right ! 11ft rods only in very low water when stripping is needed.

No that I know of, but a sew sea trout have started to show low down in the last few days on the back of the ever so slight lift on Sunday

 

Could anyone recommend a decent beat for a day ticket on Bishop Auckland for salmon/sea trout? Haven't been in a good 20+ years since I was about 10.

 

Was on Durham free stretch on Tuesday evening out of pure desperation. Despite some rain, river was still very clear and weedy. Saw nothing moving. One large fish seen in a pool over a 3 hour session.

 

Some nice clean fish getting caught last few days (below durham) been to busy to get out as of yet, looking forward to a few nights on the seatrout tho

Are you honestly expecting there to be lots of fish about in a dry season like this one, if you are that is unrealistic there has been several seasons on the Wear just like this one in the years ive fished the Wear.

 

When it was low like this Durham/ice rink area and tunnel filled up with fish alll the way down to kepier. Fish bouncing about all the time in the low water.

 

And you missed the point about the fish counters 😊

 

I've not fished on the river all year lads been far to busy, camping/ caravaning with the kids and getting a new pup,
.been a very dry year hasn't it, how've you got on?

Can't see there been many good salmon catches best sport probably on the night sessions after the seatrout.

 

There’s not really been a salmon season yet unless you’re fishing the bottom of the river beats. Sea trout at night has been the main stay of Wear action for the rest of the river.

 

Definitely in need of a big flush here in Weardale. The spawning redds are all covered in slime weed and silt, so even if the fish get here there is no where for the to go. River levels have done nothing in the last 2 days showers.
Some of the feeder streams have completely dried up as well.

 

Well the gauge soared from 0.2 to 0.37, giving not a lot other than turning the river black from run off.

 

 

Fished below Durham and CLS yesterday and didn't see fish.

 

had a ride to durham to see if many fish were running, spoke to a photographer who had been there for some time. i seen 2 black as anything and he had seen 5 in a few hours.
