Good morning folks, Yesterday I went into Hooked on Fishing,in Renfrew,I spoke to Sandy who runs the shop, and purchased my river season ticket for next year. I wanted to try another river as you can get bored after a while just doing and redoing the same old beats and runs,The returns were very favorable, just like my own river the Black cart, and given they are only 5 miles apart,I’d expect them to fish just the same.So if anyone reading wants a go a the river gryffe,( ABERCORN CLUB) go to ,Hooked on fishing in Renfrew to buy your season ticket, cost is £60. £10 first jointing fee is incuded in that. Following year £50. Over 65,second year drops to £20 . Salmon , sea trout, brown trout, and grayling are your quarry,Salmon season ends 31 of October,so hopefully fellas,me and the pal, will lift a fish or two,off it next year C/R, as well as the auld black cart, and have some good 4K footage. If anyone has any comments on the Gryffe I’d be really thankful to here em,like catch reports,Best Fly water beats, etc, so yeah, more of a glass half full than half empty,I always like to look on the bright side for a good season up coming for the lads on the SFF. Tight lines guy’s,River Drouse opens in January and always look forward to hearing on the reports from Count Sligo.👍….. jimmythefish.

Heading over to crosslee ,to start my walk of the beats, this is the best time of year to find out the best ,riffs and pool tails, and prospected best lies of where you think the fish will be.With little or no briars or nettles it will be easy walking, and expect to do most of the river over 4 different days,so when the time comes to hit the river,I’ll know the exact spots that I’ll be heading for, that’s the theory of it anyway, looking forward to meeting all the new face’s along the banks in the coming season . Tight lines lads 👍……. Jimmy.

So,I went the walk over to the river gryffe, just so I could get a good view of the water and pools before I cast a line,I seen some beautiful riffs and runs and pools, you just know a fish or two would be about,so I’d like to share some of these spots, maybe help some young fella get there first fish,So all these beats are within walking distance of the village of crosslee, heading downstream . If you require a day ticket, you can get one from “ Rods n reels, tackle shop in Johnstone,£10,a regular bus service runs to crosslee from Johnstone it’s only about 2 miles or so. The other day ticket place is Hooked on fishing in renfrew, it’s only here a season ticket can be got,£60 first year and then £50 and about £20 quid if your 65.Species are : Seatrout, brownies, grayling ( probably thee best grayling water in Scotland according to the Daily Records fishing page on a thursday) and of course the king of all fish, the Atlantic salmon ,there is the club building at the bridge side on further down with a large woodburner and healthy supply of hard wood ash to keep you warm,+ table and chairs. No waiting list to join simply take over a passport size photo and your in. It has good regular bailiffs always about ,(great to see nowadays) and salmon are regularly took,I’m told by the ones in the know,so here are a few quick snaps folks,to give you a flavor if you fancy a wee, change of scenery like I did,and took the season ticket ( wish I’d have took it years ago). So there you go men,now I’ve done the hard work for you,if you fancy it,then give this river a fling or two. Tight Lines…….jimmy

If you look behind the picture of the one with the River Gryffe sign, (Sorry it’s really vague)that there is all open land, almost right down to Glasgow Airport, excellent for all the guy’s on the fly,I think there club water, runs from Bridge of Wier village to the junction pool, away down to the airport, some 23 miles in all.To meet the Black Cart,so the fish come up the Clyde to the junction and either head up the cart or the gryffe , there are also some very deep pools, weirs, waterfalls etc.

Hiya John, aye it’s all new to me pal,I just thought I’d give it a go,as I’ve heard so many folk talk about it,there is an open free day at the club hut, with stuff etc barbecue I think),for anyone to go to,it’s in March I think John,if you put in ,Abercorn angling club paisley into Google you’ll get there page,( don’t know why they put paisley, cause it’s know where near paisley)with all the info, beat names etc. I only joined it because I was sick of walking the same beats,6 days a week ( I kid you not) and wanted a change,I don’t know what I was thinking,I should have joined this years ago, just in case they put a lock on the membership,so I’ll get the £20 ticket next year as over 65,and for £20 John,a change of scenery it’s worth it,it’s only about 4 miles from me,but aye John would only be more than happy to meet up with you and any of the other lads early some morning for a wee throw pal. Tight lines 👍. PS.……( Put you Abercorn angling club into Google and you’ll get all the gen,it’s a great site, with good info, like big fellas out strimming beats etc, when I went over to Renfrew to buy the season ticket,I asked sandy the owner, how many fish they lifted off it last year and he said he didn’t know,as they have to put there catches on there season ticket return, when they renew it John, but he said to me and Katie,so up to this morning that’s 21 caught listed so far,and most of the fellas are still to renew yet,so that was good enough for me John.) 👍

No problem John, sure let me get right on through it a few times to find all the best spots, and we’ll head straight to them,as just turning up blindly and beating the water to a foam trying to lift a fish, sure when Ive done her a few times,I’ll know whats what ,and sure we can batter on from there, also any other fellas on here wanting a bash at it, are more than welcome to join in too and give a go.👍. I’m heading over to crosslee tomorrow, but this time,I’ll walk upstream towards, bridge of weir village,I’ve fished down from the village 2 years ago,but I’ve not done it right on down to crosslee,so tomorrow I’ll do that bit,and that just leaves the section from the Moss bridge at the club hut, down to the junction pool,to finish, and that will be the whole river walked, some 23 miles of it 👍,if I can I’ll take the GoPro and put a video up on here and let the lads see it if I can………jimmy.

It’s 26 miles of water abercorn has brilliant value for money but you need to explore to get used to the water as it’s challenging. Club water runs from barrs dam in bridge of weir to old erskine bridge The club also have the rights to the white cart from the Clyde estuary to around levandale hospital this is why it’s called Paisley abercorn club
If you go into the shop you can get exchange tickets for other clubs in the area and lots of dams full of trout and rainbows proper value for money

Hiya Stuart pal,Hopefully I’ll get a few days with you on the Gryffe this year pal,and let’s see how long it takes us to lift a fish off it,if your up for it buddy. Question Stuart,I think you’ll know the answer too. How many times can you exchange your ticket, for the Quarriers beats away up the top,I tried to phone the shop but it was still closed, until it opens when everything gets going, thanks Stuart.👍

River Gryffe (ABERCORN CLUB) I believe that the Abercorn club open day is this Saturday morning for anyone that’s interested folks, please don’t get this club water mixed up with the bridge of weir club, who have the upper reaches of the gryffe from the b.o.w. Village heading up stream. So I think it will be a great to go to,and I’ll be there for sure, just thought I’d let anyone know if you’ve a hankering to join or have a look at her runs and pools,Katie tells me the timings are 10 to around 1. It’s on the moss road bridge Linwood, just pop that into Google or your sat nav.Reckon it’ll have a barbecue etc, anyway guy’s now you know 👍

No problem shug mate,I’ll hopefully get a few videos done of the gryffe this year for my YouTube channel too,so it’ll be all out to try and get a fish or two,I’m getting my own boys into the club to,as they need a change from the black cart water as well,so hopefully I’ll get a few of the local river lads on film as we continue our journey on the hunt for the tourists 👍….tight lines…jimmythefish-cart
