Be interested to hear any news too jimmy, its the most local river to me but I don't know it very well. I should make a concerted effort to find out more about the beats and get to know the river

I lost a decent fish on a black flying c earlier on this week not too sure what it might have been but it was big and silver , know another guy who lost a big fish a few days later so I think there is a few fish through the system it's just catching them now, I will be out tonight to try again

Try and use the smaller flying Cs as the fish that chase them are more likely to get a good mouthful,of the large type they are more likely to SNAP at it causing it just to catchem on the lip that’s easily torn out when it feels it,or the first run or jump and it’s gone ! Small black, and silver blade ones with the little RED cone head work every time..You can buy em now in packs of 4 or 5 on ebay and are not that expensive now.

Thanks for the offer of the tickets Stuart mate but tried it with the mate yesterday at the back of the old bowling club working towards crosslee, I hit and lost a trout in he first pool, and was almost in crosslee, and we decided it was a lost cause, fished fantastic looking pools and did all the great runs, nothing ,total dead water, won’t be on the gryffe for a long time, me and the mate have 6 salmon between us so that’s really bad for us for this time of year, don’t think I’ve ever seen the gryffe so poor, the carts fished a hell of a lot better this year. The carts £50 first year then £30 there on, REMEMBER you can fish with that permit, Lochwinnoch Loch and the BARR loch across the road, I don’t do a lot of piking but the buddy does, he took a 27 lb er + a 25 lb er last year fished on a dead bait( sardines) but he’s got all the gear, alarms, rod rests, seats etc LOL ? ,but off shopping today to Irvine with the missus just to get off the river because you can give yourself a real sickening get nothing, but we meet up every day,and throw fly’s till our backs broke, the mate keep saying these eternal words every day “YOUV GOT TO STICK AT IT.lol 😀

Took the season ticket on the Gryffe abercorn beat for the first time, just a short time ago, really looking forward to having a good old crack at this river in 2023.£60, Going over to walk the banks from Crosslee downstream ,just to get the lie of the river, instead of turning up blindly and battering through pools. Then, hopefully I’ll start where I left off my walk, and do further down the river the next outing, till I’ve covered all the length I’m going to do. weather in Renfrewshire has been totally soul destroying lately, either biblical rain, or - 8 out doors, loads of banks giving way due to total saturation,so when they hopefully, solid up a bit maybe do a wee video just for pure reference . We did the upper Gryffe up at Quarriers village and took fish up there,so I know all thon 4 mile stretch, but the Abercorn club water is totally all new to me,but I’ll be on it 5 or the 6 early mornings per week till I know it like I know the Black Cart,I’ll fish both river’s according to fish reports, but it’ll take some beating to get the better of the BC,tam reckons the BC gets a lot more salmon than the gryffe, even though they separate at the junction pool, down by Glasgow Airport then into the Clyde ,but I’ll give a good honest opinion when times arrive. They are only 4 miles apart, so let’s have a bash when the times right, early June onwards I’m guessing, 7 am start, and let’s see how she goes fellas 👍

River Gryffe A G M is on tonight 18/ 1/ 2023 ,you have to show your season ticket at the door, before you gain entry I’m being told lads,it’s in the Renfrew Bowling Club,at 7:30pm. I sure hope a good turnout is on,as the last A G M,for the Black Cart, only seen 5 members turn up for it,plus the 6 of the committee men,so that’s 5 members out of a club with 350 members, there must be a lot of armchair fishermen in our club,as 5 guy’s out of 350 is totally shocking, but when you see guy’s up the banks they always express their opinion of how to better the club, but then again they won’t turn up for a clean up or A G M once a year. You can walk the cart for miles without seeing a living soul, beats me where they all are,I’d fish the 7 days if I were allowed, buts that’s just me I suppose,so I hope my new other club the gryffe (Abercrorn section )gets a good turnout the night…Tight lines lads, only 4 weeks left till opening day for the hardy boys amoung us 👍

I was over in Bridge of Weir yesterday a walk with the wife,so decided to go up along the beats a dander to have a wee look at the river Gryffe, firstly there is really good water in it,far far more water than the black cart has,a lot more. They have installed all new chrome ladder styles over barbed wire fences, the attention to detail is superb, you can just see,how much this club think of there water, they have made individual pools along the stretch of open water for the salmon, making different beats, making big deep pools, just superb for the fly,big open fields,it just looks brilliant,I’ve not fished this section before, tam took 2, but that was 3 field’s up . These beats are easily walkable from the village centre about 10 minutes, and a spot you just know, salmon are going to be got there,I was speaking to a relative of mine last night on the phone, and he was telling me,him and big Jim black have caught a load of fish of em beats. It’s one of the prime spots I’ll be heading come July given water. I believe day tickets can be got for £10 ,as I say,I’ve only become a member of the B O W angling club this year, and bought day tickets a while back, but fellas, definitely worth a throw for sure if your looking a wee change of water in central Scotland for sure, hopefully I’ll get a few videos for the YouTube channel this year with a fish or two.Tight Lines……..jimmythefish-cart

After the trees section,it opens up to open fields and great looking waters,a new tarmac government cycle and walkway path runs just across from the river, making it easily accessible and big free car park, and for about £10er a day, this is money well spent given rain for sure. Now I’m not sure about the catch return, but this is the sister river of the black cart,so from June on I’d say, fish are going to be there for sure👍…….jimmy. PS Looking over from the bridge yesterday,it was alive with trout rises too, although it’s not stocked for trout, there is a fine head of the wild brownies here too in abundance…….
