On the hunt for a new jacket. Currently have a Simms Bulkley which is insulated therefore too warm for fishing in mild/warm conditions.

What is worth a punt in the £200 region?

Thanks, Kenny

As of yesterday, I ordered a new Simms G3 jacket. Very expensive!. However I got £200 off for the rumbling round in the titnterweb and without asking. And that's for the brand new G3 jacket!
I was never going to pay full RRP!, but at that price, well suffice to say long term ownership of two G3's in the past years has swayed me into ownership once more. That and my existing jackets a bit snug now, esp. with the Spring gear underneath!🙄, too many pies!.

My reports on the long and exacting search for a new wading jacket - The great Jacket Hunt Chapter 1 et seq - is now rather dated. However, some truths remain:
  • The Snowbee Prestige is an excellent all round jacket for the money
  • Taimen are good, providing you can get one that fits you well
  • The Vision vector is bulletproof and great value at around the £200 mark

I've been looking at the Loop Gielas jacket. Don't like jackets with loads of pockets on them as i tend to use a back sling to hold everything i need for a few hours at the river. I like to travel light, hate having too much gear with me as it becomes cumbersome.

Vision👍👍👍

ive got a Musto sailing cost (comment above). It’s very well made but I’m disappointed by the breathability for a £500+ jacket
Its bright yellow and blue. Spent years being passed off as an EU fan. Last year I’ve been supporting Ukraine.😂

I was going to say look at walking jackets. For some strange and inexplicable reason you can get top-end Gortex walking jackets for a third of the cost of a top-end wading jackets. The only reason I don't use my walking jacket for wading is that it's too long - get the pockets wet

Two of the problems with many walking jackets are 1. they don't have proper rubber wrist cuffs to keep out the rain and water which drips off the rod and line and 2. the inside of the pockets aren't waterproof if you wade as the inside is often made with something other than Gortex. But I agree that you can often get a better buy from a walking jacket than from a fishing jacket.

Yes, and not all wading jackets have inner wrist cuffs to stop the water running back up your arms either. Mine doesn’t. Not only that, the velcro bands used to tighten the cuffs also catch the damn line. I solve both problems with a pair of tennis sweat bands. Works well and even looks quite cool. Possibly
