just got myself a powerlite deluxe 4 x 4 16 foot 10-11, just wondering if they came in different finishes as mine has red whippings in the old style of rods , champagne and carbon reel fitting with matching but cap and no writing on the blamk at all except for the bruce and walker hand made small square and a spare top section , thinking it might be someones special order ?, certainly looks a classy rod,

The standard de luxe finish is blue blank and whippings and the pewter style reel seat. Bruce and Walker will finish a rod to just about any colour/finish you want however. Ive even seen a rod finished in bright pink for the ladies.
hi mike, yep seen that pink finish, need to have pretty thick skin to use that one on the club water, not keen on the blue finish either, grabbed this one because of its traditional looks, in other words , im old fashioned

well, tried it out earlier tonight, using the thinnest of the two top sections, airflo 9 /10 traditional spey , it flew out, carron 85ft ,10/11, it flew out, this was me in the weakest state ive been and the the rod truly did all the work, now i need to find a 15 ft
forgot about this post, ended up the rod is one of mr walkers whisperer rods, 1st time id heard of these,, so looks like a 15ft er will be a needle in a haystack to find,, or maybe ill wait till the arms build up a bit of strength for next season

Anyone ever fished the Walker Powerlite? I recently bought the 15' #7-10, any opinions on this rod?
I had that very rod, sadly passed it on but wish I'd have kept it!.For a floating line summer rod it was a peach!,I used the Hardy 35yd Dry Spey on mine(just a DT really) with up to medium sink polys and it was a lovely rod. It'd be a perfect Dee floating line rod, however it didn't have the guts for big fish or any form of sinking lines or heavy weight flies.
Pedro.
Pedro, are you talking about the Walker 7-10 mentioned in the previous post? I used mine for sunk line fishing for years after buying it in 1995 or thereabouts with an 11 WetCel 2 with no probs. And it was man enough to horse a 15 pounder hooked in the back from the other side of the Tweed.

Are You certain that was the Powerlite Walker & not the Original Walker Carbon Salmon rod - this was a very different beast & certainly was a good sunk line rod, but the Powerlite Walker was a lot lighter & not so powerful; I thought they came out after this but I may well be wrong.

Hi Tyke,

I can confirm that the first Powerlite range came out in early 90s as they are mentioned in some detail by Alexander Baird Kechie in his book on salmon fishing published 1995.

Like the original rods, the Powerlite range was first offered in 'Bruce' and 'Walker' versions, but had line ratings a couple of sizes lower than the original Bruce and Walker beasties. Hence the 7-10 for the 15ft Walker Powerlite compared to the 10-12 of the original 15ft Walker.

Yes, I had both, and I always used the Powerlite Walker as a sunk line rod. Mind you, I am slightly built and I remember trying a Powerlite Walker HD that belonged to a chum and finding it too much for my pipecleaner arms.
Yup dudes, that was the rod;The Powerlite Walker 7/10,as mentioned the Powerlites when first introduced came in both the Walker and the Bruce models.
Now the 7/10 I had was a peach, but struggled with anything quicker than inty. lines .I sold the rod after loosing two fish in the low 20's on the Tay in low water when the rod didn't have the backbone to move the fish the last few yards to the net when I needed to!.However it cast and presented a Hardy 35yd Dry Spey line perfectly,in fact it would lift the entire line right down to the back taper and throw it arrow straight.
Now if I remember rightly at the time I thought I'd dropped a clanger in buying the 7/10 over the 10/11 also available which was more of an allrounder. However it was a far more easier casting rod than the Mk 1 10/12 Norway I had prior to it, all though significantly less powerful. As a summer floating line rod in my opinion its a belter!!.Pedro.

Summer and floating lines was the reason I bought it. I knew nothing about it, but for 47£ I took a chance.. ;)

Thank you everyone for all the info/opinions on the rod!

Its fabulous!
What years where the Bruce and Walker Powerlite DT "Ghillie" series produced? Typically the brown matte finish, extra 3 whippings at female ferrule, gold tippings, etc.

I have the 15' 7-9 and 16' 9/10. Just curious the age. I'm guessing 15 years old?
