Question asked by me!

Explained by Dexter - Polyleader's are plastic coated nylon tapered and impregnated with a lead or tungsten to make them sink at various rates, tapered leaders are just nylon or similar tapered(not coated).

Correct lineman, poly leaders are tapered leaders coated in tungsten impregnated plastic so they sink as required. They'll have less of a taper than a simple mono/fluro/co-polymer leader, but in essence they are close to the same without the sinking polymer.
Michael Evans polys how ever are parallel and not tapered.Airflo and Rio most certainly are tapered.

They look good. Are they tapered along their length or just towards the thin end? If it's the latter, over what length is the taper?

Thanks.
I think the 1st 20ft is level taper, but i cut mine up into 3x 10ft leaders 1x heavy(level )for 40g+ heads and heavy tube flies,1×meduim(tapered)suits lines from 27g= 40g and a small for single hand or switch lines 15g=27g i dont use any gauges so cant give diameters but instead i judge by eye and all my leaders do there job for these purposes
Cut and disgard 1st 8ft
Next cut 10ft for heavy level leader
Next cut 10ft for tapered medium leader
Next cut 10ft for small tapered leader, discard rest
Perfection loop both ends small on thick(flyline) end larger on thin(tippet)end

Daiwa and varivas also have clear tapered leaders which are very reliable.

Avoid the rovex ones.
