The conditions determine the final choice of the line not the time of year.
With springers it pays to be versatile and the modern multitip shooting heads are about all you need for spring fishing.

No body can answer unless they know the exact pool, but my advice would be to fish the known spring holding pools first with a long winged fly near the surface first you can then go down to them by changing the sink rate of your tip.

It's mid march now the weather is getting milder and the water temps increasing long wings are very successful now

Thanks for that it really helps. I just ordered a airflow running line with 3 different types of guideline multi tips so hopefully I can find a fish😊 I maybe should of ordered a guideline running line but I couldn’t find one from John Norris’s page but I’m sure the airflow will be fine👍

Derekhogg, may I ask what sort of line you'll be using?. You simply can't use Multi Tip style of tips from any line!. They need to go on a line that they are compatible with, a dedicated Multi Tip line!
There's a world of difference between Poly Tips ( or Poly Leaders to use their correct name! ) and Multi Tips. Poly Leaders as their name suggests are tapered nylon leaders covered in an extruded sinking polymer. They are meant to be used as a part of a leader system on shooting heads and full lines, an addition to a line. Multi tips are much heavier, more robust and usually have a 30lb Dacron core. There are meant to be used as a part of a multi tip fly line. They are in effect the front part of the fly line that is interchangeable..They are way too heavy to be simply looped onto the front of most fly lines and will be too heavy to be turned over.
You can use Polys. on the front of any fly line as they will be a part of the leader system. Best used for controlling depth in the top two or three feet from a Floating or Intermediate head. As the weather is slowly improving Polys. are very versatile and possibly will be more than enough as Springs moves into Summer.
Now the Multi Tips are usually 15ft in length, they are more robust and there's more of the sinking material present so they will get your flee deeper and will turn over bigger heavier flee's with ease.Type 6 and Type 8 Multi Tips will get your flee down a lot deeper than any Poly! ever will.
There is an element of horses for courses here, the river you fish you might not need multi tips and polys with a range of weighted flee's could well do enough of a job for you. However a bigger more powerful faster flowing river could be better fished with Multi tip or even full sinking lines.
A full set of Airflo 10ft Polys. is a good a way as any to get you started. Couple them with 6ft of leader and wee Bottle tubes or Copper tubes with long wings to get down in the water, be prepared to use every Poly in the wallet and not just one of them. Swapping and changing the sink rate of the tips and the weight and size of flee's you use should see you develop a greater knowledge and understanding of what you are trying to achieve.
Currently, if you are getting your flee 18" or so down, that's enough for running fish, if there are fish showing in known lays, then you will need to get down to them!. Thats when you'd need a heavier poly and bigger/heavier flee.
Being flexible and prepared to adapt as and when is what catches fish!
Best of luck, Pedro.

Great info that’s very much😊 I am using an airflow running line but I maybe should have a guideline running line? and guideline multi tips, one in floating and one sink 4/6 I am still trying to source a h/i but everywhere seems cold out (this would be my starting choice I think) there are rio intermediate ones I can get but again I don’t know if I can mix and match with the airflow running line ? Any recommendations welcome here as it’s all very confusing 😂

The make of running line will make very very little difference. The Airflo running line is very good,I use the 30lb on most of my outfits.
I'm, slightly confused as to what sort of line you are actually using here?, I think that's the important bit that's needs sorting initially. In order for you to use the tips you've stated you own, you need a Multi Tip line body to use them with. You can't use them on their own on the end of your running line!. There should be a line of sorts fitted to your running line 1st, then the tips fitted on the end of that!.
Lets establish that bit 1st.

Maybe I’m missing something here , but which fly line will you be attaching your tips to ?
You’ve mentioned running line and tips , but no fly line.

Ah right, now were are letting the Dog see the Rabbit!. You've gone about this arris about elbow, in that you should have bought a line 1st before you bought any tips. I presume you've purchased Guideline 4D tips ?- it sounds like you have, so what length are they and what rating ( what size of line are they for? ), for that line and tips that's important information we need to know.
In all honesty and were I you you'd have been better off buying a Floating shooting head to match your rod and then a full set of Airflo 10ft Poly Tips to go with that.
However, we are where we are, so you will need a Multi Tip shooting head or shooting head body for your tips to go onto. The floating tip is fine, the 4/6 will be a bit quick for most rivers, what you want ( what you really really want ) are an intermediate tip and a sink1/3 tip, initially any way!. Unfortunately this will all work out the most expensive way to do things, so have a think before you go any further .
If you are struggling with any of this, I suggest you take what you have into a reputable Game fishing shop, show them what you have and ask them what you need. Going the way you are at present is the path right into cock up city Arizona.
Your running line is just fine, you've bought one as good as any and better than most!. You now need a line to go on the end of it!, I presume you have a rod you intend using all this on,? perhaps it's also better if you share that with us and while we're at it all have you a reel too?. A few boring questions that when we have the right answers can better help you with the right stuff for your needs. I think your quite confused at the moment and you could make a very expensive mistake! here.
Happy to help.
Pedro.

I’ve just figured out why I’m appearing thicker as I am ( not by much though) the shop I went into on Saturday to get kitted out have me the wrong stuff and had me thinking it was the correct stuff so that’s part of my confusion!! I just called them to try and figure it out and the lad i got knows a lot more than the lad I seen on Saturday,so a 100 mile round trip back tmoz to get the correct stuff🙈 my life is never bloody easy. So what I asked for was a full set up so I could change tips? Having never used any before I assumed he gave me the right stuff so when I read the boxes when I got home that’s where my confusion started🙄. I asked for a running line, floating body and 2-3 different tips ie-float/int/sink but what he gave me was a running line a sink s4-6 body and a floating tip so that didn’t help my normal stupidity. Thanks for the help thought it is greatly appreciated honestly

Update for all,so this is where my confusion started/ended!! Went to the well known shop in north England today to rectify what ever had gone wrong🙈 The guy was grand a real help ( better than the lad I saw on sat)!!! So the lad on sat gave me a running line (airflo) a floating body (which I wanted) and a full sink4-6 line!!! This is where I got confused because I thought the sink line was the body and the floating line was some sort of tip!!!! All sorted today though and I now have the original running line, original floating body and 4 tips of what I wanted. He did give me staff discount and got me set up for my switch rod too with s similar set up so happy days. Thanks for everyone’s help. I just need to practice like hell to learn how to use them as I am going from a single handed rod to dh 👍
