Freestyle Gold fly

I thought I'd have a go this year - the photography is harder than tying the fly. This is my attempt:

Hook: Gold Salar 8
Tag: Oval Gold
Tail: Golden Pheasant crest
Butt: Peacock Herl
Body: Lagartan gold braid
Rib: Fine Gold wire
Wing: Home dyed polar bear fur
Hackle: Sunburst Hen
Cheeks: JC
Thread: Red Uni 8/0

Golden Banana Gunn

Finally the postman arrived with gold! Well dubbing an flash.

A willie gunn templedog with the yellow hackles and fur replaces with banana. I'd stick this on if the water was running clear, its a bit less in your face than bright yellows and oranges.

19mm unflanged shrimp tube
Copper wire rib
Rear half gold braid 1.5mm
Front half gold lite bride
Palmered hackle cock banana
First wing, banana foxbwith a few strands gold lite brite
First hackle banana cock
Second wing, orange fox, a dulled down colour I dyed myself, a few strands copper lite brote
Second hackle, burnt orange hen
Third wing, sparse black fox
Jungle cock tied in long
Third hackle black hen fluff
Gold flutter cone

Welcome as an entrant for 2023! You are spot on, getting a photo that you're totally happy with is always the hardest bit!

My first fly off ‘JIMMCL’ excellent vice….thank you Jim for your prize and for sending it out to me in time for this month’s entry. Just a brilliant design and functional piece of kit….just love its large footprint steady base, dependable jaws that don’t give up on the hold even when you have to angrily hack away the dressing with a razor blade when things go wrong and need to start again 😂.The design also allows for unobtrusive approach of dressing materials on to the hook….just brilliant !!!

My entry is based around my favourite ’’gold’’ colour combo of gold and burgundy red a nice change of colour from the most popular gold and orange.Have incorporated gold dubbing in to the pattern to fit the theme but it is an absolutely nightmare to use for ‘display ‘ purposes as it clings to the fox hair and clings to its self if you try and moisture and shape it 😱……anyway good luck everyone.

took a bit of persuasion but got Logan back at the vice he was a bit down during the tying but then taking the pictures he got more interested and liked the look of it in the black light box, he really enjoyed editing the picture too and was all smiles by the time it was done hopefully he sticks with it to the end this year im trying to let him tie when its fun for him not to become a chore

You’re entry is like a fine dainty watercolour in between two masterful rich oil paintings 😂
Just brilliant from the three of you….it’s incredible how lighting can transform detail and colour in a photograph.
