I knew nothing about this until it appeared on my phones newsfeed. It was from the Times so behind a pay wall, but I found some information on a Google search.

BBC2 tomorrow night at 8pm. Might be worth a look?

Just a reminder that this is about to start on BBC2. Be interesting to see what he brings up.

Just noticed this in the TV schedule and was going to post it but see you have - should be a good way to raise awareness with the public. (y)
Hopefully.

I would hope that he will highlight a few of the problems facing our rivers to a different audience. People who might not ordinarily pay much attention to those issues. 🤞

Missus made a good point, wish this was on BBC1. So far making very very damning points, which honestly I can see the vast majority of the British public having not a scooby existing...

Having the researcher saying that he hasn't seen higher levels of micro plastics anywhere in the world when compared to the River Tame in Manchester, beggars belief...

I dont post much on political issues on here but as a fisherman and a lover of all things nature based why would anyone ever vote for a tory government? Money at all cost regardless of the consequences, this program shows everything that is wrong with this party, totally unbelievable, as you can tell I'm a bit hacked off:-(

Fair play to Mr Paul Whitehouse - thought it was excellent and he put the points over in away that most would be able to understand.👏
You can put in all the rules & laws you want but if you then degrade the monitoring / enforcement mechanisms it is no more than a simple fraud.
Anybody that thinks the privatisation of the water industry was / is a good thing is a shareholder !

All that will happen if anything is they’ll get fined and the end user/us will pay it, someone mentioned politics, if anyone thinks this incoming Starmer regime will fix things they are deluded, the horse well bolted with privatisation

I have to agree. I really don't think it would matter what political ideology was in power. The water companies appear to be a law onto themselves basically. 🙁

Admirable programmes and Paul W has his own way of putting things across and he did find many people who are tragically aware of what is going on and are doing their bit.
Alas I'm not sure that even now the general public are on board and the silence from the Angling fraternity is deafening. I know there are one or two beacons of light but the organisation who should be shouting the loudest, the Angling Trust, is all but missing in action you can perhaps see why when you read another post on this forum.

I'm old enough to remember the cleaning up of the River Trent in the 1960's and I thought I would never see rivers in that state again but I was very wrong.
When I see the state of our rivers now I can't help but get emotional about it.
PRIVATISATION OF THE WATER INDUSTRY DOES NOT WORK AND NEVER CAN WHILST THESE COMPANIES HAVE TO MAKE A CHOICE BETWEEN THE ENVIRONMENT AND PROFIT.

We need a proper regulator with real clout backed up by a Government who really care but we'll have to leave that for a GE.

If we have prison sentences for the directors/executives, as indeed called for by the EA, coupled with a ban on bonuses and any dividends being paid by the companies until they meet their legal obligations, then we would see a massive investment in infrastructure and a corresponding reduction illegal sewage releases.

It ain’t rocket science. We see more and more houses being built but the sewage works are not being correspondingly updated, or increased even though the water companies are getting all the extra income from these properties. The only reason is because they know they can get away with it.

I agree, but for your first paragraph we need decent government, I don't see any now or coming over the hill.

Nothing new in the programme, I like Whitehouse but thought his presentation was too flippant/jokey/lightweight. However It was a great relief to see that Beavers are restoring the River Tamar to it’s former glories. I shall look forward to them damning 😀 the tidal Thames at Richmond, rendering the multi million £ Thames Tunnel redundant.

I'd say Paul needs an invite up to the Isla to get a more rounded view of Beavers in the UK.
