Observations from Lincolnshire

Having safely and seamlessly completed our move to Lincolnshire, I'm enjoying living in a bungalow at street level and no longer being perched on the side of a hill halfway up the Pennines in low cloud.:(

I'm enjoying sitting out on our newly acquired de-luxe patio, surrounded by fruit trees :D and have been making some observations. It's certainly warmer than Huddersfield and the air quality is much better. Even the sky has more to offer and we're constantly being overflown by the AWACS from nearby RAF Waddington...........I've yet to see the Red Arrows based at nearby RAF Scampton.

There appears to a distinct shortage of garden birds as the peanuts are virtually untouched, but we have a lot of wood pigeons, presumaby as we're surrounded by fields of cereal crops, mainly barley. Of minor concern, there appears to be a shortage of tumble driers in the area as everyone hangs their washing out in their garden. One thing I have noticed is that knickers are hung on the line with two pegs but underpants with just one peg. Good job I spotted this so we can follow the etiquette and don't set off on the wrong foot..............it's important to fit in, especially when one's moved from Yorkshire.;).

I was always led to believe that Lincolnshire was a dry county but it's rained every day since we arrived last Wednesday. Must go, it's time to hang the washing out!:D

Feeling a bit down at the minute, with this heavy cold,
I went to bed Tuesday night, with my left ear hurting,
shortly afterwards, the pain got worse, then all of a sudden
my ear popped, and a mixture of blood & gunge was running
out. got up, and drove to A&E Dumfries, had to wait about an
hour, the Doc said I had an infection plus abscess which had
burst, he gave me antibiotics and said it would clear up, so it
was 3am when I got back home, at the moment, the cold is
improving slightly,
Another annoying thing, is that I can't visit Mrs Gaula, but she
is ok.
Sorry you've had such a traumatic time with your ear.......I've had a similar thing for the past few weeks but just a bit of ear pain and nothing like your symptoms and put it down to water from my hair washing. Because I don't go out all that much and don't mix with people much I haven't had a cold for four years. When we lived in Huddersfield I caught one every year from Mrs Mac but no more!! Glad to hear Mrs Gaula is ok and didn't catch Covid.

Dull but dry and 12C so have been out to the park and cafe for 35 minutes. They are hanging bunting on the shop fronts and trees in the park . Had a brief chat with two other scooter riders outside the Coop. Now doing crosswords and watching snooker on TV.

Had a quiet day inside watching the snooker and IPL. Quite warm at 19C so Mrs Mac has been in the garden doing some weeding and pruning. Rain later tonight.

Cloudy but quite mild with very little wind so have been out to the park and cafe for 45 minutes. Didn't see anyone I know but several people said hello. Mrs Ma c has been to a local garden centre to get some bags of compost for her tubs.

Feeling a lot better now, cold nearly gone, been to the doctors
this morning to get them to check everything ok with my ear
as hearing is still dull as yet, they said all ok, and give it time.

No covid in the care home now, have to take Mrs Gaula to the
dentist with a member of staff later, for a check up.

Quite a cold day here today, although dry &cloudy.

A nice sunny day and quite mild but have not ben out as I will be going out tomorrow. Good to hear you are feeling a bit better and that Mrs Gaula is ok to go to the dentist. Our next door neighbour who fell and broke his hip in two places has decided he wants to come back home, but were not sure that's a good move as he'll be on his own and is 94. He's getting a cleaner and a nurse to check up on him daily. Will wait and see what happens. I struggle with duff legs but at least I have Mrs Mac to look after me.

After a few weeks visiting I took my mam home on Tuesday. She wanted to be home for the coronation celebrations.
She's 93 and lives alone.
She has very good neighbours and cousins that live close keep in touch. It is a worry though, especially as I live 170 miles away.

Your mum must be very fit and independent to be living on her own at that age,
I think the older generation were a tough breed, I know my gran and grandad were.
I would like to wish her good health for many years to come.

Young George and his parents are calling in tomorrow on their way back to Hampshire so it will be good to see them. Had a bath today and washed my hair so that I will be presentable!!

Just had a tree doctor come to look at our cherry tree which looks to be on its way out - I won’t call him a surgeon yet as we’ve agreed to wait 3/4 months to see if there’s any sign of recovery.
Up to Darlington tomorrow as John Laybourn has made me a clamshell box for my small collection of 5 Maude Parker river maps (Dee, Spey, Tay, Tweed and Wye) showing the main beats, all dated about 1931 to 1933. I’ll try to remember to put some images up during the week.
Thunderstorms forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning, so my new windscreen will get a good test!

Quite warm today with little wind but didn't go out as Mrs Mac needed to go shopping and I have to hold the fort. We only have little trees and all in the best of health and greening up fast. We had thunderstorms forecast yesterday but all we heard was a bit of rumbling in the far distance. More forecast later this afternoon so will report back on progress. Our old next door neighbour is back home and has had several carers to look after him. We all think he would be better (and safer) in a home for old folk but he's very obstinate and won't consider it unless there's a disaster and he breaks something else. Hope you are all fit and well!!

Dull but warm although rain forecast any time so not going out today. May not get out again for a while as the forecast for the next few days is not good with frequent rain. Not looking good next door as there were two cars outside the house nearly all day. Derek is sleeping in a chair and won't use his new bed so they are planning to get him back in hospital but that would mean taking up a bed when he'd be better off in a home where he can be looked after properly.
