Having safely and seamlessly completed our move to Lincolnshire, I'm enjoying living in a bungalow at street level and no longer being perched on the side of a hill halfway up the Pennines in low cloud.:(

I'm enjoying sitting out on our newly acquired de-luxe patio, surrounded by fruit trees :D and have been making some observations. It's certainly warmer than Huddersfield and the air quality is much better. Even the sky has more to offer and we're constantly being overflown by the AWACS from nearby RAF Waddington...........I've yet to see the Red Arrows based at nearby RAF Scampton.

There appears to a distinct shortage of garden birds as the peanuts are virtually untouched, but we have a lot of wood pigeons, presumaby as we're surrounded by fields of cereal crops, mainly barley. Of minor concern, there appears to be a shortage of tumble driers in the area as everyone hangs their washing out in their garden. One thing I have noticed is that knickers are hung on the line with two pegs but underpants with just one peg. Good job I spotted this so we can follow the etiquette and don't set off on the wrong foot..............it's important to fit in, especially when one's moved from Yorkshire.;).

I was always led to believe that Lincolnshire was a dry county but it's rained every day since we arrived last Wednesday. Must go, it's time to hang the washing out!:D

Further observations from Lincolnshire....................last night at about 11pm we had an owl in the back garden.................great excitement as there weren't many owls around us in Huddersfield.:D

Yesterday we realised our large lawn (250 sq. yds) needed cutting so we called a local man and he came this morning with all the gear and only charged £8.50p. At that cost we've booked for a fortnightly visit.

True but not far!
I'm only safe when fishing sat down so will be studying worms, maggots, boillies, spam, bread paste etc. to start with for our local river Witham. I use the term river in the loosest possible terms as it's more like a large canal, complete with footpaths and swims.

I've already learned that our local vicar is a pike angler and would be happy to take me under his wing. With divine guidance I can't possibly go wrong.:D

Glad to hear that the move went well and you are settling in Mac!
Thank you.................no regrets at leaving Yorkshire as the quality of of life is much better here, it's quieter and I like the rural surrounds. I know the area quite well as I served part of my time in the RAF not far from where we are.

The Viking Way has been very busy since Thursday, probably because it's been good walking weather.............dry and sunny, but not hot. Havn't seen any AWACS for a few days but yesterday we had a light aircraft acrobatic display in the immediate vicinity.

Seen the kestrel again today but having doubts about my designated aircraft spotter. She announced this morning there was a small aircraft approaching low and fast but from my time in the RAF, I don't recall any aircraft that flapped their wings. Shortly after a large sea gull flew over.

I've noticed the next door neighbours have had washing out every day (and sometimes overnight) for the past five days and am just wondering if we're living next to some dirty people or are they just houseproud.

This morning we heard a series of loud bangs around 10am followed by plumes of dust rising into the distant sky. On further inspection, we notice that one of our local power stations is no longer in sight and all five towers have been demolished.............scary stuff which we never had in Huddersfield.:) As a result there has been a temporary dip in the local air quality.:(

I'm now told this morning's aircraft identification error was down to not wearing her spectacles. More excitement this afternoon and have now seen a rabbit and a pheasant in the nearby cornfield.

The Red Arrows flew over us at about 6pm this evening on their way back from Farnborough Air Show. Either that or they'd heard I'd arrived and were doing a flypast.:D

Went out this morning to survey my new domain and immediately noticed no-one has washing hanging on the line, so have made a mental note............no washing on a Tuesday.

After the disappearance of the five cooling towers from the horizon last week, I notice they have been replaced by what looks like a tall radio mast. It's wonderful what they can recycle nowadays.

Went for a ride around Lincoln yesterday and went down this street which had Lincoln prison on one side and the hospital on the other side. That's handy to know if I get arrested or fall ill. I once went into Lincoln prison way back during my days in the RAF when I was stationed at nearby RAF Binbrook. As an NCO, I was detailed to escort a prisoner from the camp who had been court martialled for theft and had been awarded 6 months in gaol. A scary place, even though I was the good guy.
