I have 3 days on pert early april and i have seen the rods available for Morphie.
As its a long way for me to travel for 3 days i was thinking of taking an extra day at Morphie.
Can anyone give me any details of this beat regarding catch numbers in springtime or anything generally.
Many thanks in advance.

Spring fishing used to be excellent, however this was when the **** at the top of the beat was still intact. Now it has collapsed it’s no longer the temperature barrier that held all the fish in the pool below it, the spring fish now run straight through and this is why the beats above, Canterland, Pert & Stracathro are having better spring catches.
Not uncommon to have had 20-30 fish a day in the 70’s and early 80’s and it was fished only by a syndicate group that I think held all the spring days up to May. The syndicate rods have expired now, hence the availability of spring rods for the first time that I can remember.
I suppose the question is, is it worth having a go? I personally think it may be , fish hard from a couple of hours before high tide , all the fish running the North Esk have to pass through it. Also from a personal point of view ,formed from fishing this beat for 20 years, it’s just a lovely bit of fly water, but sadly catches have collapsed since the demise of the ****. Also no hut or vehicle access until later this year due to storm damage.
