The Highlander "S" series has a very quick action . Basically the last 1/3 (tip) of the blank does the loading .

I would not call the S rods tip action rods. I have a few of them and they load all the way down. Sure their tip are a bit lighter and butt firmer than the Classic's, but I would never call them a tip action rod. They are lighting quick to recover and do a very, very nice job with all types of lines all the way up to a mid-belly.

For long sinking lines the Classic's and MKS are better though and the 15' 9/11 Classic or 15' 9/11 MKS should do the job for you.
