I have several spare fly lines coiled up and was wondering if it is possible to buy spools like the ones the lines were originally supplied on. I have looked on ebay but all I can find is small foam spools which are far too small to hold a fly line. Does anyone know if such spools are available and where from ? T.I.A.

Thanks for the replies. I have done as suggested already. I bought a line winder which turned out be much smaller than I had hoped. As a result it struggled to hold a full salmon sized line. I just thought when I came to rewind the lines onto a reel, it would be easier to unwind them from a spool. If any of you know where I can get a decent sized winder, please let me know. The one I have produces a coil about 4" outside diameter. Thanks again for your help.

There is a system called the Omnispool Switchbox, seems a bit pricey but might possibly be what you are after.
An other option might be a cassette reel with extra cassettes if you can get one on offer or 2nd hand...

Try asking fly shops nicely ;)

Many a new fisher has the shops load backing and that new line for them when they make a buy. If I were looking that's where I'd focus.

This looks very similar to the one I already have. It's very difficult to judge size from the pictures. The one I bought struggled to hold a full salmon size line. Thanks for your reply.

The winder is adjustable so you can vary the size of the line coil. So you can make a small coil or a large coil.
I use mine mostly for heads but I have done full lines. Double Tapers, Gaelforce 54, Airflo Delta. Full lines may come close to the edge near the end, but it works.
I have attached a pic of the Delta full line in between a 7" and 8" coil. My Gaelforce is on a reel and my double tapers seem to be hidden at the moment. Otherwise I would have shown them as well.
I did notice a small portable version line winder as well when I googled it. Perhaps that is the one you have if you are only creating a 4" coil.

Your winder must be much larger than mine to create a coil that size. The one I have was indeed advertised as a portable one. It was the only one I could find in the UK via Google. I've managed to get all my spare lines coiled now. The interesting bit will be putting them back on reels when I need them! Thanks for your help.

I have to ask, are Berkley Fishing products available in the UK?

The reason I ask is that I bought 2 boxes of fishing items about 15 years ago at a moving sale and in one of the boxes was this.

Called : The Portable Berkley Line Spooler and it's been a wonderful thing to own. Unfortunately you need to have the plastic cassettes that your lines come on in order to fully enjoy using one. Currently selling for 24.99 US dollars so under £20 to you if available. Over the years I've been through an unknown number of reels and lines and for the past 15 that contraption has been perfect.

Yea, we get berkley stuff. They are a pure fishing brand so will be distributed through hardy.
