Hi calum. The Rio flight head works a treat on the 15ft instinct don't know the grain you would need though try all your own heads on it first maybe one of them will be spot on cheers Craig
Callum,
This rod is rated to handle shooting head lines weighing between 32-34 grams. Do you know the weight of the shooting heads that you currently have? (Weight excluding running line and poly leaders) If not then weigh them accurately to see if they will be suitable.

Can't comment regarding the suitablity of Spey lines as I'm no longer "old school" :p

Good luck with it, always fancied getting one but too expensive for me at the moment. :(

Cheers, M.

not sure on the weight will find out, i take it the poly leader is just to get it down i have sinking poly tips, is it not better just to get a sinking tip head ?????? can you tell me the set up from running line to fly that you would use, cheers seems im tying myself in knots.
Hi Callum, the polyleader is an impotant part of the shooting head sytem(which ever density you choose) it is very good at transfering energy from the tip of the head to the mono leader and aiding good fly turnover which we all strive for. From a set up point of veiw I would use a fly line type of running line of at least 0.032 inch,a 34g head and a polyleader of 13ft with 6ft of mono leader for normal and small flies or for bigger flies I would cut the mono down to 2 -3ft,with the faster sinking polyleaders I would opt for a 10ft leader, usually whatevermake of head I choose i try and matchwith the same make of polyleader hope this helps onelastcast
cheers mate starting to sink in now, i am having a chuck with it tomo will let you know how i get on, going to treat myself to a rio set up, hmmmm now to find the zpey reel they are like hens teeth
I wouldn't invest a lot in the lines until you have tried the rod and decided if you can deal with the handle, many people can't.
