Ah Ha Thanks Peter, I think you are right, realised this now thanks again.
I’ve been a member of the Salisbury & District for around 30 years and a club mentor. Very happy to chat about good and not so good beats Etc. there is a wide range of water and, depending on your preferences, some would suit far more than others. Drop me a pm if interested

You must know my mate the club secretary.

Boyo I call him 🙂

No joy yesterday evening and this morning at L. Winkton . Felt fishy especially last night . Still coloured . Beginning to feel very over gunned with a 15 footer , maybe a change to a lighter outfit for the rest of the summer ? What do you guys do ? Ta

I convince myself that doing something different will make the fish change its mind and take my offering, does make me feel better, I don't know about the fish. 😎 Could not find an emoji with rose coloured glass's.

Hi David, think we met this morning at Lower W, good to chat. We’ve been using 14 #10, and 13’6 #9 with sink tips. Seems fine to cover the water at mo, as the river is quite low.
Hi Charlie , nice chatting to you and thank you . With the river shrinking , by which I mean water plants and bank side foliage growing at pace, the big rod feels a bit over the top . The 13 foot option sounds good. As MAJ says there is also the hope that a change will magically do the trick 😂👍

I went from a cheap switch rod - 11ft, to a Loop NXT 14ft double hander to a Guideline LPX Chrome 12ft9'; very pleased with the latter. It's fast, strong and you can do short and accurate casts as well as occasionally get the running line out where the river is particularly wide. As for making changes to convince salmon.. they need to be in the river first.

Cheers Alex , thank you. When things are tough it's nice to put everything on the fish , present or not . Hopefully a few more will come up with the spring tides end of month, fingers crossed and tight lines .

Nothing to report from Bisterne today.....river still murky.
As well as the fifteen footer, I have a 12'8" and a 12'9" that get equal, if not more use during the season. Both are #10 weights and can handle fast sinking heads and heavy tubes.
Could do with some rain, but I don't think there is much on the horizon....
Temperature was 16.6 this morning, which doesn't help either.
Good luck to those venturing out!

Why use shorter rods when they handle the same lines? Surely the 15ft gives easier line control, assuming you have no overhanging trees and the like that bu**er things up.

Like you I have both 13ft and 15ft 10 weights that handle the heavy sunk lines/ heavy sink tips. But for both short, and particularly long distance and for manoeuvring the floating portion of a sink tip, the 15ft’er has the edge.

Hi in my home town co. Tipperary we ha ve a very nice club with good waters although fish are scarce there always Big.
Anyway I'm in a position where I don't have much energy and suffer from arthritic Pai and also carer for my 30 profoundly disabled adult/ child.
I get great peace when I manage to get out and sometimes I will go where fishing not good but I need sometimes peace .
Unfortunately this beat is a long walk bit overgrown no ladders no seats so I'm finding it very hard to use my Oasis.
I find in the club everything done for the inner circle and committee conformist.
I've always been a good member got old I'll and carer ....asked so many times for to have this beat treated equally but no I think the good is gone out of the younger members....the old guys used to be more kind to vulnerable or old members with bank cleaning and proper ladders seats etc to help their less fortunate members .
No KINDNESS unfortunately 😞
But I'll struggle on 🎣

River down and it looks like sh1t!
The bottom only just visible in 15" or so, anything deeper and it was like looking into a cup of coffee.
In the early evening I saw two small trout on the shallows, the only fish I saw all day.

Depressing indeed.
