Drams for the salmon fishing!!

It is approaching that time again for us when we go whisky drin . . . . . sorry salmon fishing for a week. My week is unfortunately being truncated by my good ladys bloody audacity to be 40 on the Friday so its down the road on the thursday evening for me.
However the drams are being prepared. 22 years we have been going away as chums so normally we buy a bottle of the particular year vinatge as a commemoration. However 22 year olds are pretty steep so its bottles to TOTAL 22 i.e. 2 bottles. . one 10, one 12 to total 22 if you get ma drift!!!!!!!! Being us of course it has to be at least 4 bottles each.

I have taken at the mo the easy option. I am taking a Glenlivet 10, Talisker 12, for my first 22!! and a bottle of Bowmore Tempest 12. My mate from Ayrshire is takingat least 5 of various vintages. Big mate so far is taking 2 bottles of JW Royal Salute and a bottle of Balvenie . . vintage unknown as well as sommit else.

What does one think?? A nice wee apperitif to capture any magical moments. Any whisky connosieurs want to add in a special or nice one that I could take (price reasonable of course). Does any one know of a reasonable 22 year old malt???? Also options please for another 10 year old that I should get to make up my second "22 pack"
BTW I'll try and post a pic if I can be bothered on return to make all you whisky drinkers envious. . . . . . esp you Twwed Dog!!
Regards

Finally got to the distillery for DrPs winning bottle. You only get the pedro ximenez at the distillery or duty free. One of my personal favourites. Couldnt resist getting one for myself too. View attachment 92533

I'm not sure what was going on in Tescos today but they had quite a few bottles "Reduced to clear".

Picked up these three...

There were a few others too. Hopefully there'll still be a few next week. 🤞🙂

Of those, I might prefer the Tomatin although have not tried that specific one. They do produce some very nice expressions. I still have the decanter, sadly now empty, of a 32yo, 1981 Tomatin. And that was GOOD.

My lad brought a bottle of this back from his travels in Scotland it was fantastic. I've managed to get hold of some bottles again. Blended malt whisky 21 year old for less than 65 smackeroonies what a find. If you get a chance try it I don't think you will be disappointed.

Had a visit to Arbikie distillery by Lunan bay.
It was a good tour, nice and informative.
No malts to try there yet as they are all maturing.
The current plan is to release these at 18yo.
Had a couple of Rye whiskys. Liked one. But at £150 a bottle, no for me.

If you can get hold of a bottle - I absolutely recommend a Springbank 10 year old. If not, a Glenfarclas 15. Bushmills 10 also very agreeable.

Called in one of my local Tesco branches - all three were still at full price, so you were proably lucky locally.

The only one of the three still reduced last week was Bruichladdich. So I just brought another one when I saw it. 🙂

Off to the Spey, spiritual home of malt whisky, and you choose two bottles neither of which come from the Spey? 🙄🙄🙄

trying something different tonight as a night cap. We as a family have been on a wine tasting evening very enjoyable. Orrin Swift wines from California some lovely and expensive reds well in my book they were. Home now and this beauty.

Not tried that one, but have few single cask ones and they tend to be fine.
Might be a bit of wood at 21.
Was dishing out some Fettrie on the spey and it seemed to go down well.
