Wasn't sure if i should go to the Picture Gallery with these. Thought it would be nice to see some photo's of your shooting or trialling dogs. As the shooting season is nearly upon us, it could also be a thread for any shooting related photo's. So i'll make a start.

Poppy on the top is Tina's Daughter. Tina is my shooting bitch that i bred to Buccleuch Ideal, she had 11 pups, of which 1 died.

Tina & Poppy again.

Not meant by way of advice but if it was me I would be thinking of

1) contacting the breeder(s) to see if there is evidence of such conditions in the past

2) obtaining a second opinion from another vet

Hopefully everything works out well for you and and your wee bud 🤞
Hi Hemmy,

I did that Friday and they own the Dam who has no health issues. However, they kept a dog from the same litter for working/shooting and he has had 2 seizures. Weirdly they said they never got him checked over.

Oreo went down hill after a seizure about 8 weeks ago after i stepped up his outings. Ive only had him from July but I had noticed his energy levels dipping or not quite that energiser bunny that springers are from the start. I put it down to not being out as much with the previous owners so i upped his routines and he had a fit.

Ive thought of a second opinion but watching his chest pounding and rapid breathing and the seizures of him and his brother, I'm thinking its on the money. Ive had to carry him up the stairs already as he just hasnt energy at all. Hed have followed who ever was moving about the house, in hope of getting out or a treat but hes just glued to our bed or sofa.
My wee bud isn't too well and i guess im asking for a bit of help or advice from anyone whos had similar problems with their own wee pal.

Hes been on/off his food and just not him self for a right while now. 6 weeks at least. Low energy and drive and considering his walks have been reduced due to day light hours, hes not that typical bouncing off the walls I'd have expected from him in the house.

He developed a cough in the last 2 weeks so a trip to the vets yesterday was booked. After a once over and chest examination the Doc gave an opinion, due to his age, of Hereditary Heart Disease. Artrial fibrillation. Hes been given beta blockers for now and proper walks are cancelled for the foreseeable with him not allowed off the lead. That's the tough bit for me, not letting him get in amongst his favourite patch looking for his tennis ball..

I understand hes up against it and is lucky to be here but Has anyone any experience of how to possibly make this a bit easier on him in the mean time or any good news from owners in a similar situation. Hes just over 18 months old. View attachment 89737

Wiped out after a hard day opening pressies with a belly full of Christmas treats and rib roast. Charlie was definitely the most excited today.

Ach, sad news. The wee one, Maggie, who's been with me for over 1/4 of my life will be having her final trip to the vets this week.

The vets thought she was on her way out early this year, but she rallied and was doing well and 5k a day until 2 weeks ago. Sadly she's gone off her wee back legs rapidly, collapsing as she walks, so I have to man up and make that phonecall.

I made the decision on Friday. She had a braw day visiting all her human and dug pals on Christmas Eve. She can't even stand to eat her grub anymore, yet her tail still wags as she's scoffing it.

Been carrying her out to the garden and holding her up to have a pee or poop. Incontinence in her sleep is happening too.

I hate doing this as she's still perfectly happy in her wee self, curled up next to me snoring as I type. BUT........

It's time🙁

Gotta to be fair to her.

Really sad, but you know her better than anyone else. If you feel it is time, then it is.

I feel for you, having recently lost our wee Daisy, but there’s no doubt it is the right decision.

On the up side, you were both lucky to have had such a good and long time together 🐕🐾🐾🦴🦴🦴

Devastated for you Andy.
A very sad time for you.
It’s ultimately the price you pay for the pleasure of owning a dog.
Saying goodbye takes a piece of your heart every time.
Thinking about you pal.

I feel your pain, Westie. We had to put our Border to sleep this afternoon. He looked perfectly happy but his kidneys were failing. To say the least we are totally gutted he's gone.

A new pup certainly helps fill the massive hole left in your life.

Yeah thats nearly the only downside to having a loyal pet.
My youngest daughter had to put her dog down 4 days before christmas. Her first dog too so it was sad. I had a calender all made up with photos of him on our holiday to Harris so they will be reminded of happy memories every month next year.
It certainly leaves a hole in anyones life especially if its been a house dog, but the sad memories won't last nearly as long as the good memories of a loyal pet.

I'm so sorry to hear that Kenny, they leave an awful whole in your heart:(

Sadly, today was also Maggie's last, she made that trip to the vets this afternoon as well. So trust me when I say I know exactly how you're feeling this evening.

Poor Niamh is looking very glum this evening, her and the auld yin were always close. Other than when I took her and Erin out the back of lunchtime, she never left her old pals side all day. Took this last pic this morning. Funnily enough I realised after the event that tomorrow is exactly 15 1/2 years since the wee character arrived here.
