I don't think the SKB looks that good, I liked the look of the orvis Clearwater Large Arbor Cassette... But also looked at the vision koma a few days ago and thought it looked good
Orvis Battenkill or Hardy Marquis 8/9.
Orivs is better technically but if its for sea-troot fishing the Marquis screaming surely lights up the night !!
Personally, I'd stay away from the vision koma. Its style over substance and does not take a drop! Not that we should drop them, but these things happen! Cheap die cast ally that cracks easily...... I've been there more than once sadly.
Skb all the way.
have vision komas and suspect that you are right, but I like them and haven't had a problem - unlike the Hardy Marquis….much lauded, but mine cracked right across the frame..and not the first I have heard of….basically the frame is much too thin
For me, no question. The Scierra XDP. I have about 5 of the older ones, and can't fault them. Lovely quality, finish and performance. A great drag system too.
Agree with the above, I've one bout 5 years now that I used excusively in the salt and it's still going strong despite never rinsing it in fresh water and generally abusing it...
Paul - If you don't like the SKB Overdrive have a long look at their cassette reel. I have had one for over a year and it has been superb.
A lot of the other reels mentioned are machine cut "die cast" aluminium and are not machined from bar-stock. Accordingly just drop one and it could well be toast.
With your budget you could get the reel and a nice Barrio SLK line to match and still have change for a pint.
