Beaver banks

This is how our river banks end up after over a decade of abuse from beavers being left to their own devices.
This is the isla just before it joins the Tay at meiklour.
I would love to hear beaver advocates tell the beat owner all about the amazing benefits they bring to a river.
Im glad I’m not paying for that.

Is this work on-going now?
Could change the flows into the junction.
Thought they’d need & struggle to get SEPA and SNH allowance for that.

Yup took pics today on way home from the Tay Neil.
Taken from the bridge on the isla just before the turn off to the bridge on the Tay and the beach hedge row.

There probably would be less damage if they hadn’t taught the Beavers how to drive diggers. What next, a chainsaw course?

It happened to one beat at Wear river (Chester le Street) the famous pool (local know) and for decades there was successful (catches) until one (burn stream) joined Wear river above the pool and wash out (all rocks and filled the pool. Now there no pool.

man-made repairs should be banned - it will eventually worsen until let natural takes shape itself after floods.

for thousand, millions years - the river does moves positions over the time, nowadays everyone want to see river stay same position (it won’t work) - let the natural take do the work even with help from beavers or floods.

I know some of you have different point of view.

Can someone tell me the difference between this on the River Lugg in England where this farmer was jailed and what the diggers are doing on the Isla??

From my previous contact with my local MSP, I believe that this would be legally done to protect beaver-caused bank erosion and beaver intrusion on a working farm. The majority of the Meikleour beat has been stoned in that manner.

I think they’ve struggled to put the Beavers in Jail. 🤣
How do you like the beaver banks.
Sculpted with straight edges, or just natural?

We have now got beavers in the Exe and Taw. At the moment they dont seem to be doing much harm but its very early days.

Give it a decade of them running wild and your river banks will be ruined too.
They have been rampant on the isla for near 15 years now.
The devastation is vast.
No trees and all the banks have collapsed or have huge holes and glides in them.
