I've not tied a classic for a good while so, thought it was time to tie a Baron and Silver Doctor on antique 1/0 hooks.
Forgot how difficult these are... Not perfect but, nice to get some practice in.

You have a genuine talent for this - I most certainly do not! I am slightly curious as every dressing recipie I have seen for the Silver Doctor has a Bronze Mallard overlay to the mixed wing? Also, I thought the head cover was red wool. From the picture it looks to be something different (albeit red). What do you use as your source for dressings - is it Kelson?

p.s. I have a soft spot for a Silver Doctor. After a couple of Blue Charms it was a couple of these I bought with my pocket money from Dicksons (Edinburgh) back in 1980. I still have one of them.

Thanks. Yeah, there are thin slips of bronze mallard there; just very thin and not so obvious in the photo. Yes, it is red wool, dubbed lightly on the tying tread at the head. I also have a soft spot for a Silver Doctor, a very effective fishing fly.
As for sources, I often change my reference point to keep it interesting. I will use patterns by Kelson, Pryce Tannat, Maxwell, Francis, among others. I tend to pick the patterns on a whim or on what materials I have available.
