Another tackle/gun shop for sale

I see the shop in Arbroath is up for sale, what with Orvis going and Mallochs, we will soon have no tackle shops left round here. One in Montrose, but mostly shooting stuff and Robbies place on the Kingsway in Dundee and that's it.
Forgot about Neil's place in Forfar

Hiya Burnie pal, Aye shops are disappearing fast. Take the size of paisley, one of the biggest cities in Scotland, and it doesn’t even have a fishing tackle shop, there used to be a few good tackle and gun shops. Like pitchers sports, and fish and gun,all closed down years ago. I have to go to Johnstone or Renfrew, for a tackle shop. I used the Glasgow angling centre once, I got an alarm set for the pike( all the salmon men here go to the pike after the last day of salmon fishing) ,now Glasgow is only 9 mile from me,and they charged me £13 delivery. ,I could have got the 3 busses that I’d have needed,to get there, but I’d have got free, but there you go pal,and with little to no rain, the fellas are not out, thus no trade, terrible whole carry on all the gether mate. Tight Lines……. Jimmy. Ps I was down the river the other day with the wife a walk, and the workmen were there 2 years ago tending pipes (sewer) they cut down tons of trees to get into the new sewer and just left them to rot, plenty of good cured wood for a wood stove for winter if you’d a chainsaw.

Yip the internet has been the curse of many local tackle shops.
I still try and make the effort to go to Robbies and Neils for bits n bobs. Bought a few rods and waders from Neils and always meet somebody to get a cràic with. Used to like the wee shop in Boat o Garten, would go in in the morning and get all the yarns on the sea trout from the previous night.
Sign of the times though. Sad.

All coarse fishing shops around me.

Is it the internet, is it the lack of kids fishing? I dont know.
GRowing up in S Wales there were quite a few tackle shops to go and browse and spend your pocket money.
I'm 62 and I'm still like a kid in a tackle shop 🤣

It’s not just tackle shops that have closed down because of the internet and all that goes with it.
High streets everywhere full of charity shops.

Unless they live on or very close to a river the younger generation are not going to be encouraged to go fishing for something that doesn’t exist on most days and in most cases cannot be eaten in the very rare event of catching one.

Children will continue to accompany parents until the novelty wears off in most cases

I was fishing the Tweed a few weeks ago….no fish,no Tweedside Tackle,no Orvis etc etc…….but there is a Fishing Museum.

No tackle shops, no fish. As I said to the ghillies on the Dub 10 years ago, you will be doing site seeing trips to spot the salmon.

its not just the tackle / gun shops - is ALL the shops. Have you seen the number of and size of Amazon / The Hut Groups springing up adjacent to the motorways? Massive absolutely giguntum warehouses with goods shifted from the far east to your door with barely a human touching it.

I keep saying to the wife 'There is your favourite shop darling!' - (usually returned with a rebuke.) But if Debenhams / House of Fraser / Marks and Spencer etc.. can't cope - how can a local guy run a tackle shop in a diminishing market when every accessory / model variant is available on click and probably discounted because they shift more gear and can discount it more?

And I never mentioned the effort in driving there! we are all guilty in using eBay / Amazon etc... and the High Street is changing fast. Even the more affluent towns are struggling with local resellers turning to operating out of a small industrial unit with low rent and reduced foot fall

Just wait until Artificial Intelligence takes over and says the item is wrong for what I want...... have you seen Terminator ?
