I first saw this pattern in Peter O'Reilly's book around 20 years ago but had never tried it. Gwelsher sent me some flies one time and there was a flouresc green shrimp among them. I just opened a small packet from yesterday's mail to find some beautiful #10 double hooks some for tubes and some for tying onto the hooks themselves. There was also a couple Finn Raccoon in great colors that I lack like Claret and a beauty of a gold orange looking bit. It seems certain that...

Ian gordon has just posted a very interesting explanation of why you get good grilse years and good salmon years - but rarely both together. I have heard about the North Atlantic oscillation but didn't understand this particular significance of it. If you are in the same boat, I think its...

I maintain a website and write a blog about Atlantic salmon fishing on the Miramichi River in New Brunswick, Canada. One of the river's most famous fishermen was the late Ted Williams, aka The Splendid Splinter. Some baseball fans will remember that he hit over .400 in three years of a career...

I recently watched a program which showed the actual magnetic north pole positions over the last 100 years. It is moving at a very fast rate and has moved almost as much in 20 years as it had in the previous 100 years and is heading to Siberia. We keep on being told that Atlantic salmon use this...
