Hi
I've been using Veniards Cellire Varnish No.1 Clear (Fine) and when varnishing the heads of flies some of them have been turning cloudy after a short period.
Does anyone know the reason for this?
Thanks

anyone using the above rod and what lines you using on it? I intent to use it for low water on the Spey if we get a summer like last! Was thinking on tryin gaelforce switch short Spey on it either 7/8 27grm or 8/9 30grm , anybody tried any of these on it? Thanks neil
The Tolfrey version from the 1850s (one size smaller than specified) - though I DID place the crow UNDER the butts rather than over and only used two at each joint rather than four coz I'm running very short of the stuff.

On hook #1. I don't have black heron at the moment so hackle is just cook, the longest as I could find in my stock but still too short. Also more distinct white wing tips would make no harm to this fly.
Rio Scandi short versitip 5wt, 20.7g, comes with tip wallet and 4 tips. Great line for 5/6wt switch rod or 10ft 8wt single hander. Slight discolouration on line at the back end where it meets the running line but otherwise excellent.
SOLD.
Cheers Diarmid.
Barometric Breakthrough by Andrew Bett: can't disagree with any of the scientific arguments, sensible logic and pure common sense in this book. A short and sweet read which I learned a couple of handy things from.
It was an incredibly dry summer but thankfully we witnessed some great sport right at the end of the season. A friend of mine put this brilliant short video together from a day where every pool we fished produced something. Enjoy!!
