Hi, Anybody can help me with fly line recognise? Below you can see a picture, I received this line with reel which I've bought. It is 7,1m long and 27gram, and additional (separated) front taper 4,8m long and 8gram weight. I'd like to use it to my cross s1 11'#7. Black end goes to the reel...
  7. Hairwing Fly Patterns
The simpler the fly... the harder it is to get "right"..any part that's even only slightly out of proportion becomes glaringly obvious. I should have spent more time on the bucktail tips and wing lay but heyho..here's Mk1:lol: Been a long long time since one of these has been on a cast of mine...

Hopefully I can post an image, this is my first post on the forum. Tied this last night by copying Davie McPhails youtube video. Took me about five times a long as him to tie it though :noidea:

The Eternal Optimist is a lovely fly which looks to me that you could catch fish all year on it. A stick on, you would think? I make it a point to give it a throw every time I am out Spring and Autumn and never had so much as a pull on it.:( The point being, I think most members on the forum...
  10. European Rivers
Just to have it started ;-) No significant snowdepth yet, but it has been rather cold for a couple of weeks. Should give a few feet of frost in the ground, which is good for both animals and the snowcover when the snow arrives. Nearly all long time forecasts tell of an unusually mild winter...

I hooked and landed a spanking clean run grilse on the last day of October which I put back , I was wondering how long in the river it would take for it to be in spawning condition ?

Here we go.....how long is a piece of string? Is hook size any measure? Eminent posters such as Loxie talk about using 16s, 18s, even 20s. Other posters say changing from a 14s to a 16s made all the difference and they caught fish. What is the difference between a 16s and an 18s size wise. My...
  14. Reels
Hi all I am looking for a reel to be used on a 9/10 or 10/11 rod and that could hold a long belly line (carron 9/10 65ft and 10/11 75ft head). As I don’t cast long belly lines often, I don’t want to break the bank for spare spools. So I was having a look at the hardy ASR 9000 and its cassette...
  15. Patterns for other species
I like this on the dropper at certain times or on the point in lower water when weed can be a problem if you fish too deep. I like a long hackle but in some publications it's a lot shorter. Anyone know the recommended size in the original ? Colin.

This system 2 reel is one of the later, perforated drum models. It comes with a 10/11 weight integrated sink tip line, the sinking part of which is 10' long. Superb disc drag, only selling because the reel foot will not fit on my 13'9" Shakespeare Scandi. It was fine on my 15' LPXE. The foot is...
