I've started of a second series of live fly tying, this time the theme is claret salmon flies. Perhaps not quite as popular a colour as with trout lough flies, claret non the less has some very good salmon patterns.

A few perennial favourites, T&L, Dunkeld, Kingfisher Butcher and a copper March Brown.
Tied on B175 in #10,12 and 14, with a couple of #14 Magnis thrown in for good measure. None of these are a patch on the wonderful flies tied by Hollywood in his long running thread.

I see these sometimes referred to as " snake flies", but to my mind they are nothing like a snake fly, so tandem zonker it is.
Never tried these personally, but heard they can be very good...we'll see
When I was tying my Cascade doubles I also tied a few with green butts but I have never fished with a green butt cascade & wondered if it makes any difference or not to catches.
It would be good to hear opinions on this as I like the look of the fly with the green butt which I used Varivas...
I would like to trade these salmon flies for a good quality used river trout rod 9 feet or under for a 4 or 5 wt line , cosmetic appearance does not matter as long as in good working order.
There is 16 doubles parks etc on quality hooks and there is 12 scandinavian tubes with frodin tungsten...
