Every year around this time, I go through a spell of trying winged flies and failing miserably!

I only have basic winging materials so trying to tie patterns that use the limited materials I have.

I tied this one last week. It is from Chris Mann's book and is called 'Silver Doctor Ireland'. It was only after I'd tied it that I checked the book again and saw it should have had a topping overwing. Ah well.

Not in the same league/ball park or even the same game as KGMs but it'll have to do!

One of the best skills that an angler can ever develop is knowing the difference between passing the time and wasting it!

Don't worry suirspey, I'll get mine up next week to level the playing field a bit.

If I could tie one fly in the classic style it would be KGM's Silver Doctor. Much like the Flies Dave Carne posts in the classic forum, Jockiescott's Longtail Willie Gunn or one of Lamson V10's Willie Gunn tubes that classic Doctor is pretty much perfect . . . . but is it fly of the month . . . . . .

I sound like a stuck record but this is the strongest field yet and we're only a couple of weeks into the month.

    Fantastic.
