Our trip Friday night.

Well at low tide it was full of fish and amazing to watch them all..

Fish were bouncing everywhere and as ever expectations were.

My first couple of casts caught me a bloody eel 🙄

I think Nic was the first to catch a schoolie.

He later hooked a beauty of over 4 pounds.

I managed about 5 or 6 schoolie s.then the
Biggest for me was over 3 pounds, then a pound n half fish fresh.
Bass at under 3 pounds

What was more frustrating was that I lost 7 fish in a row.
The first one was a really good fish and the others weren't schoolie s as such.
My hooks were sharp, just didn't understand it.

Set up was a Testwood nymph on the dropper and a 2" snake on the point.

We did both work really hard to find the taking spot.

Thanks for the report. Do you catch most fish on the nymph or the snake fly?

Also the Testwood nymphs, which I have seen, are very heavy and do you struggle to cast this set up or do you use a lighter weight nymph?

I was using a 3.5mm tung nymph and a small 2" snake casting was ok with a full intermediate and alternating with a sink tip.Wren you get to 4-5.5 mm it can be awkward.

I was catching on both.

I know this is the salmon fishing forum but…
With the season being over and not many fish banked im thinking of having a go at the pool for bass, partly to check the place out for a salmon trip next year. Has anyone fished it for bass in October and is fly fishing for them here feasible?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I fished the weekend of October 2nd and 3rd, I did 3 hours each day in the daytime and didnt see a Bass, in fact over the two days I didnt see much of anything, on the Saturday morning the water was clear and I didnt hook anything though a few small Sea Trout were jumping, rain that day lifted the river a small amount and coloured it like weak tea on the Sunday afternoon and I saw and hooked a couple of fish but they came off before I could even see them !
