Here are the figures for June in 2018 and 2019 for the two rivers:
Orkla: 2018 June 1086, 2019 June 1029. (2020 June 1560)
Gaula: 2018 June 1257, 2019 June 1218. (2020 June 1647)
so a better year this June for both rivers. The water levels have been on the high side but are now dropping fast!

Follow up on the Tennis match between Orkla and Gaula, second set (July month)
Orkla: 1284 catches sofar this month.
Gaula: 1611 catches sofar this month.
water levels, as I write: Gaula 100 cbm/s, Orkla 60 cbm/s
To be fair, it is right to mention that the fishing pressure and number of rods fishing is higher on the Gaula. But here we are!

At the end of the second set (July), the match between the Gaula and the Orkla, in terms of catches, looks like this:
July by 31st @8.00pm Gaula 3358 catches, Orkla 3307 catches
Year 2020 with one month to go: Gaula 5011 catches, Orkla 4913. This shows a solid improvement for both rivers compared to the last two full preceeding years: 2019 (Gaula 3405 catches, Orkla 3423 catches) 2018 (Gaula 4944 catches, Orkla 3859 catches).
In fairness, one has to notice that the run on both rivers up to now this year is mostly made of grilse and 2SW fish ( rounded average weight Gaula 11Ibs, Orkla 10Ibs). But some solid fish in between with a 53 Ibs from the Gaula, fish of this size being very seldom!
Exciting to see the Match results at the end of August! :p

Well, as I suggested in my last input forecast, the Orkla won the last set of the match and the match itself!
August catches read as 1487 for the Orkla and 1087 for the Gaula. The overall results for the season are Orkla: 6462, Gaula: 6157. Naturally, there will be some further late catch registration, but overall the Orkla takes the top of the podium!
Just nine months for the next tournament! :p

That was very interesting, very good numbers...reading it back there it was a bit like the US presidential election!!!....
Did Gaula not forward any postal Fish???..

Anyway 2020 did not happen for me in Norway...but I’m looking forward to 2021 and perhaps to finally get to wet a line in the Gaula...it’s bizarre to think that since 2018 I’ve had a fishing trip organised each summer to Gaula and for various reasons have yet to cast a line in that river....!!!
We are travelling earlier in 2021, basically the first 10 days in July and we are doing a short trip to Stjordal for 3 days and then to the Gaula...
So hopefully thing will have improved in regards this pandemic and everyone will get to enjoy their fishing and hosting their guests and the fish will be there. Thanks to the contributors on this section in keeping us updated.

Have you any idea of the numbers of rods fishing on each river when fully let?

Anyone prepared to look into the crystal ball and hazard a guess at how things will play out this year.... 2021? Will foreign anglers with a vaccine cert be allowed into Norge this summer? Life is too short for another no-go season, let's hope we all can.

My guess is not before July. All depends on how far Norway has got with vaccinations and also the infection rates in the country you're coming from. Looking at FHI's prognosis, most adults are expected to be offered their first jab by the summer holidays.

Word on the street Jack from a reliable Norwegian source closely involved with Norways response to Covid and fishing companion to a certain JC;) is Norway will probably open up borders in Mid May with no need to quarantine if you have proof of 1 dose of a covid vaccine. Of course you still have the issue about getting there in the first place and will you have to quarantine on return to your home country etc? We rolled over from last year and are currently trying to decide if we should commit to go, or ask to roll over to 2022 or a later week in 2021 or see if they can fill our week and give us a refund. Current thoughts are, there are too many uncertainties, also one of our party is unlikely to be vaccinated in time and so we will probably not go this year and hope we can either roll over to next or get a refund. Hope you get but doubt I will.

I fish with some swedish anglers and last year we rolled over and we have fishing from 14th June 2021. As BJ has said that travel abroad for holidays will not be till mid May there is a slight possibility that the trip may be on. It will depend on Norway's stance on opening the borders and the vaccine situation. I should have had both mine by then so time will tell. Fingers crossed.

Jock that would be great news, I think me and my two pals would go end July, just enough time to get end of August on the Naver . In any case the lakselve will not roll over for next year.

If anyone hears about Norway allowing visitors ( especially with only one jab) please post as soon as you hear any news or gossip. I still have a week on the Gaula booked (2nd week July) and have not rolled it over yet. But due to work I'll probably have to make a decision yes or no in the next month.

The government were asked about travel today and they responded that it will depend on how far the vaccination process has got and infection levels were in Europe and other countries. As there have been several delays in receiving vaccines in Norway it's a bit too early to say when the borders will open but they weren't against opening before most people in Norway had received their first jab was my impression.

The Norwegian government announced its plans for opening up the country today and the allowance of foreign visitors wouldn't be implemented before stage 4 (stage 3 for family members). With minimum 3 weeks between each stage we're looking at mid July I'm afraid.
