Evening all,

I finally got time to sit down and knock something together for this months TOTM. Although I've not had time of late I have still been thinking of what I could tie and I've gone from traditional to modern and swayed back and forth since then. Hooks, tubes, shanks ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ!

So I finally decided on a traditional/modern combo that I hope will make me a good fishing fly as well as looking good for the competition.

My fly is therefore tied on a 25mm waddington shank, rigged with a trailer single, fastened with 25lbs black amnesia.

THE DRESSING -
Tag - lagartun small gold oval
Butt - danvilles rayon floss - yellow
Tail- orange over yellow GP topping feathers with wound ostrich herl.
Body - 3/4 length - black floss
Rib- veevus medium gold oval
Top 1/4 body - small dubbing ball of mixed orange, bronze and blue litebrite ( essentially thunder and lightning colours ( brushed to to give the hackles a nice angle )
First hackle - hot orange saddle ( 2 turns )
Second hackle - bronze mallard ( 1 side stripped ) and wound ( 2 turns )
Final hackle - dyed blue guinea fowl
Thread - Black uni 8/0

Looks great although I would prefer a black butt and head. Never seen orange weaver as an Indian crow sub. Is it wildly available and does it keep its colour when wet?
I seem to remember Orange weaver does have a kink in it like Granadensis Indian Crow. I can imagine if one was really good in using dye then Orange Weaver is a very desirable sub. Not sure if it retains its colour when wet but it could well do.

I wouldn't say that weaver is widely available but it is easier to find than IC. It keeps it's colour and is more of a bright orange than IC.

Lost my best thump of this year on a flea almost the like of this one,I know it works, cause I seen the white of the belly of the fish as it turned and rolled off with it,it was only about 10 feet above the bridge where it had been lying,it was only hook lipped and easily threw the hook, but thatโ€™s just shows you how good this fly can be on an average Scottish river, only difference was I was using a small double hook,itโ€™s definitely a fly to keep at the bottom left of the box when you need to get something to pull you out of a blank day for sure lads.

I keep thinking I have made my choice for votes as so canโ€™t see anything better turning up and then something like this is entered! Thatโ€™s a really stunning version that is going to make my final selection near impossible! Perfect photo to capture it too ๐Ÿ‘

I think itโ€™s the impression of a classic mixed wing which does it for me and is ideal for this kind of pattern.
Yea, can't we have 10 votes each, pls, or 12....???

Would it be okay to make a "Silver T/L", which is the T/L colours, but with a silver body, many of the other classics exist in a "Silver" variant....?

Iโ€™ve had a wee ponder on that and while my initial reaction was yes, I think the black and gold colours in the body are an essential part of the pattern and so I think having straddled the fence Iโ€™ve just come down on the side of no to a silver body.
