Hi All,

I'll go another mini tube, I can't see past them at the moment. No worrying about which hook is allowed single, double, treble - if it snags on a rock or gets caught in the branches of the tree Gods and survives with bent out hooks - swap the hook rather than chuck in the bin etc.

I've stayed relatively conservative as I'm confident in Cascades and need it for the fly box!! This is an orangey version.

Tube: 0.75 cm black outer, black inner
Tail: Mix bucktail - orange and yellow with smidge brushed out and mixed orange and yellow artic runner guard hairs (to half way)- 3 strands midge pearl flash
Tag: Semperfli Light gold wire 0.2 mm
Butt: Hemmy green erse (Globrite 12)
50: 50 Body: Orange holo into black floss with light gold wire
Wing: Black shadow fox (Sean Stanton)
Hackles: Longer Yellow hen under shorter orange hen
JC: Heresy I know
Cone: Metallic orange - Future Fly Hybrid

(Note: Hook isn't the one I'd use - it's just used for holding up a fly for a picture - Bendy Mouth Doubles bend at the sight of a river)

Tight lines,

Patrick

Oh my that’s really impressive. Seems logical to incorporate the name DR into one of your creations😉

If ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’ve gone with the MacKenzie cascade in its original colours. Just a brilliant fly that I love the look of and that will always give me confidence.

Hook: Partridge Patriot #8
Thread: black 8/0 uni
Tag: medium oval gold tinsel
Tail: hot orange bucktail, root beer crinkle flash, yellow fox squirrel
Body: gold holographic tinsel/ black floss
Rib: small oval gold tinsel
Throat: orange shadow fox
Wing: black shadow fox, gold crystal flash, yellow fox squirrel
Cheeks: jungle cock

So nice. Seeing all these variants reminds me of an article I read about Delfur I think it was? Where the ghillie had no time for describing anyone’s own variations and so they all went down in the book as cascades. When in Rome and all that😂

Republican cascade, tied it last night and had it on this morning so thought I’d throw up a pic.
1 inch aluminium slipstream tube
Hackle; orange over yellow
Wing; highlander green bucktail and a couple strands of krystal flash
Body; front is black silk, back half is silver tinsel, oval gold rib.
Tail; green and yellow bucktail, couple more strands of krystal flash (you can never have too much on a cascade!).
Tag; green globrite
Head; red thread and krystal flash.

This one is out of my box, I call it The Orangeade,
I had 3 fish on this actual fly last season,
Works well as a small Fl Orange conehead as well,
Hook - ED size 12,
Tail - Yellow and orange bucktail, with a few strands of Hends orange uv enhancer.
Body - Orange Holographic tinsel,
Wing - Orange Squirrel tail, with the bar left in, and a couple of strands of orange Krystal flash,
Hackles - yellow and orange cock,
Jungle cock, toned down with orange permanent marker,
Head - Fl orange

Some superb entries so far this month. I have toyed with quite a few ideas but always gravitate back to good old yellow, orange and black. This effort is tied as a standard cascade but with a couple of quirky elements which I hope will add to the interest within the pattern. This is a good 'fishing fly!! It has two tone boar bristles in the tail and then a stacked wing consisting of two golden pheasant tippets dyed hot orange tied in a similar way to a General Practitioner, with a pinch of black tapered shadow fox pelt over the top.

So, the ingredients -
Hook - #8 double
Tag - small silver oval
Tail - 4 x hot orange tipped yellow bristles tied 2 1/2 times the length of the shank
Flash - 3 x strands of silver micro flash
A pinch of each, yellow and hot orange buck - tapered and mixed tied a tad shorter than the bristles to emphasise the bristles.
Body - half silver, half black floss
Rib - medium silver oval
Wing - 2 GP tippets dyed hot orange, staggered so the black lines match up ( like a GP shrimp)
Pinch of black fox pelt on top
Hackles - hot orange over yellow saddle
Thread - 8/0 black

Good luck to everybody this month!
