Aldo Salmon Variant

This is a Marc LeBlanc pattern, who created indispensable Gaspe flies like the Picasse, Green Spey, and Jones Special. To meet the criteria I subbed the dyed red golden pheasant tail and dyed green ostrich herl butt. The beast who supplied the wing material can be seen in the North American Pattern sub-forum.

Hook: #3 Alec Jackson Spey in Bronze
Thread: 70 Denier Olive Brown Ultra Thread
Tag: Flat Copper Tinsel
Butt: Peacock Herl
Tail: Natural Golden Pheasant Flank Feather
Body: Flat Copper Tinsel
Rib: Flat Red Mylar Followed by Small Oval Green Tinsel
Underwing: Orange Krystal Flash
Wing: Golden Retriever
Hackle: Medium Blue-Eared Pheasant followed by another Golden Pheasant Flank Feather
Cheeks: Jungle Cock

Materials for Tie of the Month

I’ve sussed out the material for the wing.
I’ll wait until she’s asleep , the wife I mean.

The rest I have got to work out.

We have a cat with amazing black fur - I’ve looked closely loads of times and wished I could take some samples - you could do monkeys/long tails but if I went anywhere near it I’d be in trouble - from the cat and the missus- So I went the safe option of using some recycled wrapping :tongue:

Here is my fly for the TOTM, the pattern taken from the 'Farlows Salmon Flies' which was called the Craven or the Nun. The wing is made from a heron feather which I found once during fishing.

Hook: #1/0 Partridge CS10/1
Butt: fine oval tinsel
Tail: heron
Body: hare dubbing
Body hackle: rooster
Rib: flat tinsel crossed by small oval tinsel
Wing: heron
Hackle: heron

My black lab Cara thought she was next in line for clipping

We have a cat with a lovely bushy tail that normally sits on me at night and uses me like a pin cushion. Talk about 6th sense because It’s not been near me since I put TOTM up!

For the time being I’ve given up on the cat coming to see me when the family aren’t around and so I came up with this today.

Thread: 6/0 purple uni
Hook: patriot #8
Tag: small oval silver
Tail: 4 fibres from GP red tail feather, natural calf tail. Note the red fibres were pulled from the quill and then tied in the ‘wrong way’ round to create the end ‘bulge’
Rib: small oval gold
Rear body: red wool
Front body: Sainsbury’s taste the difference wine bottle foil
Hackle: from body join, pheasant flank
Wing: rolled bronze mallard

Thought i just saw a photo of a dalmation Iain, must be losing it:lol:
Hahaha I may or may not have temporarily posted the wrong photo  She’s a lovely friend when you’re feeling less than 100%. I think I got that photo instead of ‘done’ as it was at the top of my screen.

Bit of an old fashioned 'Grub' feel about that one Gary. I like it! :thumb:

Thanks Richard.
I had that sort of idea in my mind. The drab sort of grub the local lads would tie with the materials available.

Pom-Pom Shrimp

Here’s my attempt this month, a shrimp
pattern named after the body material 🙂

Hook: Ahrex pr350 2/0
Thread: White
Butt: pink litebrite and pink uv mix with slip of teal over
Rear Hackle 1: natural heron
Legs: mottled turkey slips
Rear Hackle 2: natural heron
Eyes: 60lb mono and uv glue painted black
Feelers: white horsehair
Body (front and rear): pink tinsel from
daughter’s cheerleader pom-pom (!)
Rear Body Hackle: natural heron
Midpoint: teal tied on top as carapace
Front Body Hackle: natural heron
Legs: mottled turkey slips
Front Hackle: natural heron
Wing: teal tied on top as carapace (slightly shorter than first one)

Not too many different materials and all easily available, except the horsehair. By **** they’re fast🙂

I bet that would also work well in the salty stuff as a squid or cuttlefish! Nice.

Here is my fly for this month. I really had trouble finding an idea for this months fly. Both cats have had chunks cut out of their fur and, surprisingly, my black cat isn’t as black as he looks when you look closely at his fur.
In the end, this is what I went for. It’s a snaelda type fly. I stripped down an old iPhone charger cable to get the red wire for the body and the silver rib.
Hook- size 8 patriot single
Tag- silver wire from charger cable
Feelers- GP breast feather strands, GP tippet
Antenna- stripped hackle stalks
Hackle- natural brown hen
Body- red wire from iPhone cable
Rib- silver wire from iPhone cable
Then I coated it with uv epoxy
