It looks like a lovely beat, mows, thanks. What length and # rod were you using?
And what are those big stick-y things on the bank called? I've not seen the like before.
;)
Glad you enjoyed the time out!

looks nice last fished there 20 years ago February month hooked and lost two fish in quick succession below the dam on a silver stoats copper tube, where do you get permits from?
On fishpal.
£40 plus vat.
Brechin angling club get fishing on it and the other 2 beats when vacant.
I had an opening day fish a few years ago, bellow the dam, just off the bench.
Some bits are shallower since strom Frank.
Boat pool just wasnt working with the fly.

Its called willow(y)
i was using a 13 foot mackenzie signature, but just because of the big fly.
switch rod would be fine normally.
beats about a mile long.
they can put 4 rods on it, but 2 would be the right number.
once upon a time was one of the best beats in Scotland.
caught my first springer there nearly 40 years ago.

Had a few hours fishing today, first time on the Southie, joined Brechin Angling club this season, my plan was head to the Westie for a first bash on there but had dropped to much,
Started at the top of the beat and got as far down as the Craig Pool, was really impressed by the pools for fishing the fly, no action but did see 4 fish go through the Craig Pool, seen one other guy fishing who was really sound and pointed a couple places beside where we were 👍
Def be back down there when decent water
