I had not realised that there is a fair bit of spinning goes on at Darnaway.. Do any other beats partake in a bit of cranking?

Spinning is only permitted on the river from the 11th February until the end of April. (This is part of the byelaw that bans organic bait for the whole season).

In reality though only Darnaway Estate and Forres Angling Association allow spinning for this period.

I would say that generally the use of the spinner is declining, with most people wielding a fly rod as their weapon of choice. However it is a good method to get youngsters into the sport and it has to be said that some of the pools on Darnaway are best suited to a spinner.

Fishing has picked up this week, seems to have been a wee run of fish this week. 2 off the association this week, including a 15lbr this morning. Even managed to winkle a fish out myself this morning - before the sun stopped play! Fish was about 10 lb and had a couple of lice.

Back up to the Findhorn yesterday with a close angling friend. Always enjoy my visits to Findhorn and Nairn as they normally always produce and this visit didn’t disappoint. No fish for me but a much deserved fish for my guid friend. Logie and Relugas lower beat. Scenic, and good water. Basically 3 pools concentrated on, rotated to death and a long walk between each, would have preferred less walking time more fishing time and longer pools but that’s just me. Here’s a few photos of the day, and couple of my mates fish. I’ve told the missus I’m retiring up there.

Love Logie but need to be a mountain goat to get into some of the pools.

See you with the rod in the garden pool.
Love that pool & when the fish are on the move it’s a cracker.

Had a couple of days on Lethen with Roberto Fraga and Ross James (RJC Rods), we started with snow and a rising water on Dunearn then the next day on Altnahara but the water was still too big but the boys were blown away by the landscape, for a few hours we headed down to the association water and after 10 mins Roberto had a nice 14lb fish from the Stoney pool, a great couple of days.
