As yet,I'm still on the fence with this one but let me tell you of a freinds experience at the weekend.
A girl I know was out for a drink with mourners after her mother in laws funeral on Friday night....They all ended up in a boozer over in Helensburgh(a pub I wont Name).....Whilst outside the front door having a ciggie......a bouncer aproached her and pushed her away from the door telling her she "shouldn't be smoking here"
She answered him back telling him there was no need to push her....
At this point another one of the bouncers(who was of the ethnic minority) aproached her and told her"just f****n move..OK"
She apealed to their better nature saying that she was only having a fag and didn't want an arguement...
To which the ethnic gentleman said something in his own language...
She told him if he wanted to say something to her he should do it in English...
They called the police and she was charged with racial abuse...because she told him to speak English...
It's really anoying that some people can just jump on the racial banwagon and the authorities play along with it.......Even encourage it...

I didn't really want to get involved with this thread but...

Not fishing related but up until three years ago I used to live in a certain Highland Village famous for snowsports which had a very high population of eastern european workers mainly in the hotel trade (I know this as I used to employ a few and to be honest they were very hard working and quite decent individuals), one night we were out for a staff night out in one of the local pub/restaurants and I happened to observe two lads of polish origin acting very shifty in the pub. I watched them for a while and realised what they were up to, they were going around the place looking for single girls and attempting to put something in their drinks. Well the silly buggers only tried this stunt with a girl who was in our party!! Needless to say they were "dealt" with swiftly (i'd better not go in to detail but i think you can imagine what happened next..).

Now i'm not advocating this course of action by any means and I regret not acting appropriately and alerting the police as that would have been the right thing to do but unfortunately due to the fact that an ex-girlfriend of mine was sexually assaulted in a similar situation a good few years ago the red mist came down and....well I think you can guess the rest, what i'm trying to say is be careful when out and about.

This was apparently not an isolated case as I know of at least four others who had been on nights out and the same had happened to them (the scary thing is none of them touch a drop and only drink soft drinks when they do go out which is not very often and when leaving to go home they could barely stand up let alone walk home!!)

Now please do not think for one minute that I am a racist and that I have it in for these people as my girlfriend is from the Czech Republic.

"no speak english" may be the reply but it doesn't matter which country you come from, everyone knows what a copper looks like!!

I know after what i've just posted it seems hypocritical to say so but do the right thing.

Ruairaidh,

I think perhaps we are all guilty of taking this thread in the wrong direction as is common (but acceptable) on the forum.

Me think you doth protest too much!!!! It seems from your post that you are somehow involved in the "immigration" trade, though I may be wrong. That gives you a vested interest on this subject.

I don't really want to talk about whether immigrants should / should not come here but I am moved as being from the silent majority of concerned Brits and indeed many many Scots I speak to..

I do wonder however why these migrants travel all the way over Europe to get to this cold, racist country that you depict. there has to be something more.....................free this free that....................and dont say it doesnt happen.
Car driving lessons, mobile phones, Ef off TV's with satellite (fair enough eh, so they can keep in touch with Aljezeera TV or whatever country TV they like to watch). Taxi fares etc. Dont say it doesnt happen cos a mate of mine fitted half the Tv's and mobuile phones in an area called Pollokshaws in Glasgow.

Perhaps word gets around. Would be interesting to see what France e.g. offers their immigrants when they aint working.

That sort of stuff gets up MOST peoples T**s whether you like it or not. If that makes IMO the majority of people in this country racist then fine ..........we are racist country BUT does it make Australia racist??????????? have you heard or seen their Prime Minister speeches. He welcomes all immigrants with a skill or trade that would ENHANCE australia not bring it to its knees. Also tells them they will live by Australias rules etc. What a difference to this country where the PC brigade as TINEY TONE Correctly terms them have claimed the moral high ground (a bit like the C & R brigade in salmon fishing) and boy dont dare even THINK that they are wrong or state reservation about policy or you will be branded a RACIST end of...........:mad::mad: I do however feel that the PC brigade are hanging on by their fingertips and they know it. Most joe public are sick of being ripped off. Now it has arrived on the fishermans doorstep with plenty of fish being killed........aye smolts etc.

All the original post said was that DIPPER was sacked off with guys fishing without permits and claiming not to speak the lingo hence plaeding ignorance as they disappear with a bag full of smolts, trout or whatever. There is nothing wrong with that and among seals, nets, mergansers, cormorants, fishmonger anglers is another dent in the salmons ability to survive.
Perhaps you could give them all a sheet in their own language when you meet them so that they may understand fishing regulations in this country and prevent this totally wasteful slaughter of our fish

BTW I consider myself proud to be British and fiercely Scots.

its a big problem on the kelvin with the eastern europeans fishing with out permits. theres been reports of them netting the river and using prawns which are banned from the river they also kill smolts and small trout. the new bailiffs took a polish anglers tackle of him last month which included a polly bag with 2 very small sardine size trout so hopefully they'll start to get the message! oops i forgot they dont understand english!

I've said it once and I'll say it a thousand times more. This country is ruined. We're corrupt, bankrupt and fighting a loosing battle as we sink into deeper and deeper debt and there's no going back because we've let to many immigrants in and that's not counting the illeagle ones.
Just face up to it and live your life the best you can because all the protests in the world won't change a single thing.

a nationwide poster campaign – in five languages.

I'm sure they're bound to stop poaching now...:rolleyes:

I've no problem with people coming here to work, but once you stop abiding by civic and criminal laws, you're on the first plane home.

The real truth is we wanted them here due to a serious lack of labour within certain industries which started in the late 90s due to the many hand outs for lazy twats from this country , where a government made it that many were just financially better of not working at all.
The hospitality industry was on it's knees as was places like fast food outlets and the food industry in general, all of the lower paid jobs in this country were near impossible to fill and they were drafted over in their thousands to work in these jobs that we gave a two finger salute to and stayed home watching Jeremy Kyle while being paid to do so.
There was agencies popping up all over the place offering foreign workers and i reckon they pulled us out of a real problem at the time, i know they came at a critical time for me as i was thinking of getting out it was so bad and they changed all of that.
I have generally found them to be honest, polite and very hard working people and could i say that about the home workforce, no way the majority of problems always came from resident workers , not turning up and can't be bothered to phone in and tell you they were pissed at weekend and can't be arsed to get out of bed for a second day in a row, they were well trained in what they did much more so than we and i have no problems generally with these people but you as always with any nationality get the morons, it is what happens when we take so many with open arms to help us out so no way is it right that they are here stealing our jobs and houses etc as the jobs they were getting we didn't want, but now things are different and the place has fallen upon hard times it is easy to just point the finger at the foreigners for a situation we created ourselves, i have around 15% polish / latvian workforce and i wouldn't want to lose any of them most have been with me now for quite a number of years and i have enjoyed working and learning from these people who i find probably 4 out of 5 can get by communicating in English from the first time i met them and all are now fluent in English some more so than some Scots i have had.
They do though definitely don't get our way of thinking when it comes to fishing , they do not understand or see any logic in the fly only rule as the vast majority of them in a Poland will fish with bait or spinner and catch and release is not parcticed in this part of the world where they ave had harder times than us putting food on the table this is kind of understandable, they also eat species we don't like carp is a very popular dish in Poland as are most coarse fish like pike and bream to name a few the thinking is basically if it swims you can take it home and eat it and they do.
Many of their lakes and rivers are not watched and they wander down in most cases and fish however they like without anyone to tell them otherwise and when you are brought up like that it tends to stick with you wherever you go but i agree they should find out before they do and respect our ways.
I don't doubt it is a problem but we also have a big homegrown poaching problem and have done for years in fact as long as there was rules there has been an army of poachers.
But it no way they are here because they just suddenly thought lets go to the U.K it is definitely due to our own lazy way of thinking and living on handouts that brought them here .

I bet every single one of them can say "Ouch, what did you hit me for"?.By the way I am known for my tolerant understanding nature towards lying cheating, chancing toe rags!.If shall we say incommers choose to obey our rules and embrace our ways of life then welcome them with a smile and open arms,if not then teach them the error of their ways!Pedro.

Rennie, that should apply double to some of our caravan dwelling "metal recycling/ ownership redistribution specialists" who originate from these islands but come over here & plague us with theft & benefit fraud.
Our local bunch will happily set baited night lines immediately after the angling club has re-stocked with trout & then go & steal the council's man hole covers (never mind that a pedestrian may then fall 8 ft into an inspection chamber in the dark) before claiming hardship benefits then driving back to the river in a new untaxed or insured 4x4 to see if their "sporting efforts" have born fruit.
Don't bother calling the police, as soon as they realise it's the "travelling community" (again) - who have been resident on the same site for the last 12 years by the way, then they don't want to get involved.
Yes, society has gone mad, we know who is committing the crimes but can't take any action because we may then deny them their human rights to live a lifestyle as thriving, cheating, sponging criminal scroats, mind you just try driving at 35mph in a 30 zone & see what happens to you - but then again you will pay the fine!

Indignantly, Victor Meldrew (well now I know how he felt), Tyke.

Yup - come across them on the Southie form time to time......" me Polski man, no speak English"!! They seem to understand "f*** off" fine enough.

We had an incident last season where they raked every single freshwater mussel out of one pool and shelled them all on the riverbank!

Totally agree......... it would seem we infringe on others human rights but nobody seems to to infringe on ours. We are prisoners in our own country.

Our politicians are totally out of touch with the electorate....... what a shower, they think only of them selves.

On two visits to the clyde over the last week ,one last sunday up at crossford, I was fishing for brownies ,there was three other "anglers " one fishing a flying c ,one fishing a shrimp with a float the other fishing a bunch of worms ,this was at the pool below the footbridge just upstream from the road bridge ,when I spoke to them regarding there fishing methods ,no speak english was the reply ,do you have a permit I asked ,,no speak english again was the reply ,then again at blantyre wier the other day another ,no speak english angler was fishing away without permit .I have also spoken to other anglers that fish other rivers and they are now coming across the "no speak english anglers " so if your looking for a free days fishing just go for it and when approached by a balliff or river warden just say "no speak english" because they seem to be getting away with it. Also everything caught is killed no matter the size or species.

I wonder what language they spoke when they asked about the methods they were using and where to fish ??? Or if they would have scarpered if the word police was used pronounced the English way.

I remember an Austrian painter who put his brushes away and went into politics in the 1930's with a plan to clean up Europe.

Had some good ideas, but it all got a bit out of hand.

All over these Polish and ex Jugoslavien Poachers (East block) without permits an no ethics about fishing and fish. It's only possible to stop these poachers with resolut actions against them. Single person have no chance to be taken honest from these idiots. You have to get them with some friends and you must frighten them as much as possible. They just know and accept the power from a stronger group then they are. This is the way to keep them away from our waters otherwise no chance!

get off your high horse! i think that you are blowing this out of proportion (not like you:rolleyes:) nobody on here is discriminating against anybody, never mind setting a bad example to the younger of our members. a problem situation has been raised and imo nobody has done anything but 1) suggest a solution 2) suggest an origin of the possible foreigners....based on the fact that this didnt happen till their particular influx 3) have a tounge in cheek laugh

you are going way over board with your references to wartime attrocities and other over the top steriotyping

I agree with ruairaidh: from what I have read so far is absolutely disgraceful. This sort of thread should be taken off the forum.

So, and not being confrontational in any way, do you think it is OK for Eastern Europeans to poach and empty our rivers of fish?
